Any moonroof block for intense sun??

Waiting on my new MCS to be built, and was wondering if anyone knows of products that will block out more of the sun, even when the sunscreen is closed? I searched in the Forum but came up with nothing....It get's real hot here in Southern Calif. espeacially in bumper to bumper traffic!!! Thanks

Go to a window tint place and have them put limo tint on the sunroof. That coupled with the minimal shade already included should make a significant difference.

There have been some posts (that I can't find at the moment) about a sunshade that fits. I'm probably just going to cut down a cheapie from Wally World.

Thats what I did-"cut down a cheapie from wally world" and it works great. Just cut it to size and place between the sunroof and the netting, reflection up--

I picked up my sunroof shades from minspeed.net for $31 which fit perfectly and go between the sunroofs and the factory sunshades.A worthwhile investment especially here in South Florida.Blocks the heat and searing sun.Easily removable to use the sunroofs when you want to.

Tint

We also found the sun to be very intense while sitting on the 405 in LA. We had a limo tint put on and saw an incredible difference. I would suggest a limo tint.

I have limo already but it will be 100+ here in a few months. Heading to Wally World. I am guessing this is the way to go for the windshiels also. Cut to fit the folding silver type???

All of the solutions so far "sound great" but you risk the chance of overheating the glass thus causing it to "mysteriously" explode. Try going with a perforated roof graphic. It cuts way back on the light entering the vehicle, and unlike dark limo tint, it will not draw more heat to the inside of the vehicle. Besides, a roof graphic is a great way to personalize your mini and make it stand out!

The MINI sunshade fits well, but a Wally World one is probably much cheaper. I've had the original sunshade for my Integra for almost 19 years, so I don't mind investing in the MINI shade.

I ended up getting the MINI sunshade as a freebie, and I really like it. Most of the time, the car is garaged or it is a short trip that doesn't necessitate the MINI shade. It's a lot better made than I thought it would be.

Another cheapie fix was to get some window cling film from the baby section of Target (I believe it is Eddie Bower brand) and use this to temporarily "tint" the back sunroof and the back window where my son sits. Not a perfect fit, but $5 for 2 helps.

Tinting has worked great for me. One thing to consider when making your decision on tints is that not all tint materials are made the same. Don't go for the cheapest deal in town. The quality and "heat" rejection qualities of the various films difffers significantly, with little difference in cost.

I went with a highly reflective (mirrored) tint with a high "heat" rejection rating. To simply block the sun with a dark tint will not necessarily keep the heat out.

Good luck!

I have installed the ZippeeShades from http://www.zippeegear.com/documents/products.html
and so far they have been great at keeping the car much cooler.

They are custom cut to fit the R56, R55 and R53 model sunroofs.

The ones I received were a real poor fit. And they smelled funky.

Are those zip covers easy to remove? (ie, I'm at a stop light, I decide its a great day out and I want to open the sunroof, can I get this thing off in a few seconds?)

There is also the Stratmosphere sunshade:
http://www.stratmosphere.com/mini_interior.htm

as well as the option of doing a full or perforated roof graphic.

I would discourage going the limo tint route, much to dark, makes the sunroof pointless at night, which is one of the nicest times to have it. Its a much better idea IMHO to get a lighter ceramic tint (30-40%), that will keep out just as much heat while still remaining useful when dark, and allowing in some light.

I was going to go the tint route, but I think I'm going to try the Zippeegear first. With the money back guarantee, I figure I can't go wrong!

I live in Las Vegas, NV and the perforated roof graphic from Cooperflags made all the difference in the world. Cooperflags and other graphic places have got flags and other graphics and also can make about anything in a perforated or solid vinyl. Haven't tried the limo tint but that may work great also if you don't want a flag or graphics.
