I put a perforated cover on my Cooper, but it didn't stop the sun's glare from coming in...consequently, I now have a closet full of hats. When I bought my MCS, I had an opaque [black] sunroof cover made and installed. It TOTALLY blocks out light from the sunroof, but yet allows ventillation when the roof is open. the really nice thing about it is that the design can be seen on the inside of the car now, too, while allowing no overhead light to come through. Now, to pare down on my hat supply....

Tell us some more about this opaque sunroof cover....what material/fabric? Where'd you have it made?

Not to worry...just remember to iron them like the instructions say!! GOTTOON and I both have them and have not had those problems. The first set I got was a bad fit (for the R56) but they had a manufacturing problem which they acknowledged and they replaced them as soon as the new stock arrived. Never had any issues with a funky smell!

Mine arrived today and work like a dream. There is just a little bit of "new" smell but nothing bothersome. I'm glad I went this route.

30% window tint on sides and back, 5% on the sunroof. Works great and cuts back tremendous on the mini oven effect!

5% limo tint, llumar brand for me. Talked to the installer (~15 years in business), he said that cracking was possible back in the day of plastic sunroof, but nothing to worry with glass roofs that we have.

I'm sorry (to the limo tinters) but doesn't the fact that you get almost 0 light in at night, and only 5% during the day completely ruin one of the main reasons to get a sunroof. I mean I see the point of the shades (the car gets hot especially when parked), but one of the reasons to get the sunroof IMHO, is to let light in when you can.

Somehow never bothered me. If I do want light, I roll back the shade - plenty of light during the day. Also, there is always that middle rocker switch on the panel in front of the sunroof :D

Zippee shades makes one that goes with the moon roof on the Mini. I know Custom Mini Shop has them and he ships. A link to Steve's sight is on my signature.

I got a roof decal with my MINI for that very reason. I hate sun roofs. The decal is very pleasant -- lets just enough light in to be pretty inside during a sunny day and blocks the sun at the same time.
I love looking up and seeing a Union Jack, too. That's alwars a plus.

I bought the zippee shades from Moss Motors and have loved them from day 1. I'm in Florida and my car sits in an open parking lot all day while I'm at work. I also bought the windshield shade for the R56 from Moss Motors. The two shades combined make a HUGE difference in the interior heat when I leave work every day.

I got the Zippee Shades also and in my opinion, they have an advantage over tinting. You can't remove the tints for night use.
The shades can be easily removed and stored away when not in use.

I guess that is an advantage with having both an R52 and R56 in the family. I drive the R56 in the day and ride with the wife in her R52 at night.

Zippee Shade

Those Zippee Shades sure look interesting.

For those of you who have one....looking at the website, it appears that the front one stays on when you raise and slide back the glass??....they say that it stays in place up to "90mph"....how about noise? Does the shade make quite a bit of noise flapping about when you are at highway speed with the roof all the way open?

Thanks!

Brian
