How is your MPG?

Hi all! I have had my 07 MCS 6-speed for 6 months now, and I am curious about how everyone is coming along with your MPG? I checked mine yesterday, it is about 26 MPG. Considering that from the sticker it is 32/38 city and highway, does that mean I am not driving my car properly?

What advices can you give me to get higher MPG?

Well in the beginning I was averaging about 28-29 mpg. Now I'm at about 6000 miles, and I'm getting 32-33 mpg. Not sure if it has to do with engine break in.

I average between 30-32 MPG. I just rolled past 15k miles ( she's growing up so fast!) and I've been getting that for quite awhile now.

32.5 mpg over the first 1100 miles 70% city, 08 mcs 6 speed unmodified at this point, needless to say I am very happy.

P.S. I use boost.

Mileage report

I have an '05 Cooper and get 40 MPG highway as a best. (It was cross country, 80 MPH, cruize control.) Around town, I can vary from low 30's to low 20's-depending on my level of spirit. I tend to like 4000 RPM's and higher, so MPG is not my objective. Stuff like air pressure and timing of your driving to minimize rapid accleration/de-acceleration really impacts MPG. Bottom line, you can drive like a grandmother and get excellent mileage around town. For me, that's not why I got a MINI! Motor on.

32 mpg

I've a 07 MCS, 6 speed. On my commute, about 75% of which is curvy mountain roads, I average 32mpg according to the OBC. BTW, premium gas is $4.19 at my local station.

Dang, you guys are good. I'm at 1500 on an 08 MCS 6 speed, and averaging 32 mpg. Just coming off 3 weeks around town driving - otherwise I'm mostly freeway. Looking for that elusive 34 mpg.

My last fill up was 32.5, which was a major and pleasant surprise. Lot of highway driving, no A/C yet, but quite a bit of stop and go traffic on those freeways.

And, as I posted somewhere else, I'm not being timid on my driving, although this weekend I really got out on a twisty road and ran with the Sport button on for the first extended time. We'll see how the MPG holds up.

It's pretty easy to see less than 5 mpg when accelerating medium to hard. If you are driving city a lot and don't take it easy from standing still, it kills your average.

I get 34 with 50/50 city highway driving.

I have found 40+ @ 50 mph... 34+ @ 80 mph... and low 20's stoplight to stoplight... It all depends on how and where you drive...

Lots of stop and go traffic, lots of hills, Living in SF, average about 26mpg all city. somewhat spirited driving most of the time. Tons of evasive maneuvers daily because of jackasses. MPG is still pretty good I would think.

MCS here that averages 36 mpg. I drive mostly highway between 30 to 50 mph. You just can't go very fast in Honolulu, traffic sucks...

Took a 3.5 hour road trip down the interstate this weekend and avg'd 32mpg each way. 90% of each trip I ran without AC and kept it at 70-75.

Sure would be nice to hit that mythical 36mpg..heck I'd take 34!

My last tank with mostly in town driving had me in the low 20s

08 MCS 6 speed, just under 5000 miles on her. Average 31mpg on the OBC, I reset it after breakin was done. I was averaging about 28 before I did an oil change at 3000, then it jumped up. I do about 50/50 city highway.

I have an '07 Cooper, and I usually average about 38. Most of my driving is highway, though. I had a bit of an attack after my last tank which only yielded 29. My driving is much more subdued with this one. The OBC says avg mpg of 45.7. I doubt that will end up being the case, but I have 250 miles on the trip, and I'm only missing two bars of gas... I suspect the car is a little confused.

Just broke 10,000 miles. I get about 27.5mpg. But I am almost no Hwy driving and when I do, its LA traffic. Better than the 17mpg I was getting from my old Mustang

05 MCS, all local spirited driving: 20-21mpg.
Been on the highway, got around 30mpg.

MINI, its not about miles per gallon, its the SMILES PER GALLON!

I think it would be a lot more helpful if you gave your average speed on the OBC when quoting your MPG. I've realized that someone's 30% highway 70% city is another's 50/50. Not all highways are created equal and surely some city driving is accelerating from 0-30 and back to 0 and repeating every light while other city driving is cruising along at 40 mph in 4th gear until you hit a light. I can drive around Santa Monica early on a Sunday morning and get over 30 mpg. What I'm saying is that the 30+ city people make the 20 something city people think they are being shortchanged when I'm willing to bet that if we switched cars, you'd be getting no better than I get here in L.A. commute traffic.

That being said, I'm averaging a hair under 28 mpg (29.4 on the obc) with my 90% rush hour driving, which I think is great. My avg mph is 24.5.
