stress crack on r56?

So I had my father's GTI today at school and my mother called me right before i went into my track practive and said that I needed to come outside and see what happened to my windshield.
I went out and found a three-four inch crack closer to the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side and from what i can tell its completely smooth, no actual damage which is why I would assume that it may have happened because of stress. The pics are crappy cell phone ones but I tried, unfortunately the car was just detailed so its really shiny, I tried though.

I tried to fog it up so you could see the crack, in the first one it actually extends to the tip of my hand if you can see it.
Sooooo anyone else have this problem or is my dealer gonna make me eat the windshield deductible?

Look very closely for any microscopic pits in the outside of the glass; if it is indeed a rock chip the dealer will not warranty it. If it is a stress crack it should be warranty. Sorry to hear about this on the R56, I know lots have had issues with this on the R53, though I've personally never had any issues [knock on glass], and I've tracked my cars to hell and back. I guess it just comes down to luck.

Just had my windshield stress crack repaired (last Wednesday). Sorry I don't have pictures. It was a warranty item. Similar to HighSchoolzMINI, mine just appeared on the passenger side, but from the top down.

Amazing that this problem has made it to the R56 after all these years. There was never a clear resolution or answer from MINI when this problem surfaced in the R53 5 or 6 years ago. I have owned 4 MINIs and never experienced this problem in 6 years of owning these cars. Here in Florida, $0 deductible full glass coverage is mandated by state law. So if the dealer refuses replacing the windshield under warranty, the insurance company has to pick up the tab, 100%.

Amazing how some states are so backwards when it comes to glass coverage.

$1600!!!! Is the windshield made from crushed diamonds? Sounds like about 4 or 5 times what a replacement windshield should cost!

Exactly...Most replacements will run in the $350 Range. Interstate glass did one for me on my Element..Came t he house, did the swap, took my check for the $100 deductible and everyone was happy.

Regarding Warranty and stress crack issues, the dealer will usually do the "Pen" test ie: run a ballpoint pen along the crack..If it catches anywhere that usually indicates an impact caused the crack.....Smooth all the way is usually stress induced

When I asked the dealer how much it would cost to replace the windshield (if it wasn't a warranty item) he quoted me $1500.00. I about puked.

Then I called my insurance company to see what kind of glass policy they have. That's a lot of money for a tiny windshield.

I had a windscreen crack that looked very similar - took it to the dealers and they said it was caused by a stone chip. Rang my insurance company to make sure I'd get an official MINI windscreen replacement, all it cost was the £50 excess A replacement heated windscreen in the UK is about £400/$790 if you went direct to BMW.
