ive been noticing that on the pictures for the newer models, the headlights are not part of the hood, but instead they stay down with the car when the hood is opened :(. im getting my mini this weekend!!! and was a little disappointed about this. so my question, which minis have the headlights that are attached to the hood? also, do the newer minis have the "secret compartment" open or closed? i read several threads, but im confused as to which is which. thanks

2007+ R56 and Clumben have headlights that are not attached to the hood. My MA mentioned that it was causing too much stress on the HID mechanism every time you shut the bonnet.

All new models should have open secret compartment...

 

Much better now that the lights are not on the hood. I've had both.

 

Also makes any mods to headlights/headlight rings a lot easier. Rings are just clipped on and the headlights can be disassembled while still on the car using a heat gun...i do wish I could do the cool pointing the headlights in the sky tho

 

Think of all the cats stranded in trees at night since they changed this...
