Recall for install of hidden storage compartment above the glovebox

Just wanted to give the heads up to anyone who purchased an '07 MCS early in the model year. Supposedly, the hidden storage compartment above the glovebox was to be made available sometime in the first quarter of '07. If the car has the storage net by the front passenger footwell and the storage nets in the trunk, the car was to also have the hidden storage compartment. My MCS, which was built in January of '07, didn't have it installed from the factory, but it had all of the storage nets. I just figured if it was built before the release of the hidden compartment, that I was beat and would have to pay the dealer to install it. I was preparing myself to shell out a hundred something, when the call came in. The dealer explained to me that there is a recall for the hidden compartment, in case I ever wanted to install the CD Changer or the IPOD adapter.
I don't know if the recall also applies to a non S, but definitely inquire. And for those people who paid the money to have it installed, I would ask for a refund. I don't have my paperwork in front of me right now, but I'll look for an actual recall number on the workorder that I can post.

good to post for people who didn't know it, but it's been in the general knowledge for awhile. There have been many threads that talked about it.

Ohhhhh, excuse me! That's exactly why I posted it, for new MINI owners like myself that didn't know it and didn't see it in the thousands of threads on this site. If I can save a few people some bucks and headache, that's all that matters! Like, nothing on this site has ever been repeated or talked about over and over again??!! Next time, I'll try to do a better job searching for a particular topic before I write about it, Mr. Thread Moderator. Is that why you have so many posts??????????

Wow, not to speak for MotorMouth, but I'm pretty sure he didn't mean that in an offensive way. Was just stating the facts so you can be aware of them.

Yes, many repeated questions are posted on the boards and that is the primary reason why many users recommend running a search before creating a new thread. It's in no way meant to be b*tchy, it just helps us all out if there's not a ton of threads all dealing with the same issue.

Hope this in no way soured your introduction to NAM.
Welcome!

Easy now, big fella....

I think most of the people who have early builds (I have a week 3) will have already been notified by their dealer at the time of any servicing. Apparently the key brings up the VIN, which brings up service bulletins, recalls, or this sort of thing. In fact, if your car needs to be flashed for anything, you might have new features programmed at that time.

Just be glad you won't have the problem I had when the secret compartment for MINE first became available. I have a Fluid Silver interior, and the old ones came in boxes that were mislabeled as new! It took MINI USA to figure that one out--apparently I was the first in the country to have the problem. (Story of my life, and MINI ownership career.)

ibethelucky1 - Don't take it personally it happens on this forum. When someone new comes along certain individuals like to "set them straight".
If you were part of the "regular clique" your post would have been welcomed with open arms and much mindless banter would have followed.

I hope you continue to visit the site as there is usually lots of good information available.

Keep the faith.

Sometimes people just like to spit words to see where they splatter.

Bitchy, bitchy!! What side of the bed did you get out of today. Motormouth was trying to be helpful to you when he suggested a search. Anyhow since you are a newcomer you are forgiven. We are a close knit group ,we argue sometimes but it is all in good fun. Welcome.

No problem. The whole reason for the post was that I have owned my MCS since May of '07. Since then, I've put on 32,000 miles and have had four services performed by two different dealers in the northeast area. It wasn't until the fourth service that the service department advised me of a recall for that compartment. So I figured, WOW, this had to be just released, not thinking that this was public knowledge already. Especially since the other dealer that I have work done at, called me a week later to notify me of the same recall. So that's how I've ended up here. I'll try to be a little more reserved next time in my response.
I appreciate everyones concern in the matter. Thanks!

I think it was about July before I got the word--and that only because of my persistence. They never called me.

There were so many threads because so many guys were in the same boat. Or MINI, as it were.

wow dude. I think you read more aggression(?) into my post than there actually was. I hope you don't make it a habit of blowing up so easily. It's bad for your health.

Why do I have such a high ( ) post count? I've been posting here since 2004. You'll soon find out who the people who really post alot are.
