Bonnet Stripes

Anybody buy and install their own bonnet stripes? Initially, I've chosen the "center" stripes that are not $85 per the mini site, but $250 installed by a subcontractor at the dealer. I'm debating canceling this "option" and buying and installing my own stripes. It's not so much the cost, but the principle and the fact that I kind of like the idea of installing a different style myself (using Mighty Stripes maybe?).
Thanks. Greg

From: D.C area.
I bought my stripes separate and paid a contractor $60 to install it.
I didn't trust myself in doing it.

i installed them myself. If i were to do it again, i would just buy vinyl from a sign shop. the MINI sport stripes are 13CM wide and 1 inch apart. You can get way more vinyl at a lot less if you order from some sort of sign shop.

I just installed stripes myself this weekend. First time doing anything like it, and I would have to say, if I could find a professional to install for $60 like mickcooper_S, I would definitely do that next time. DIY is fun and more bonding time with your car, but for less than 100 bucks, I'd rather get it done and have a cleaner finish.

btw, I also ordered from mightystripes. No real complaints as far as that goes. The vinyl comes by itself, rolled up, so make sure you lay it flat the day before.

If you're just having the dealer subcontract it out, then cancel that bit of the order and do the same thing yourself for a heck of a lot cheaper. Odds are they're marking up the price from what the vinyl guy is charging them.

The only real reasons to have it done through the dealer is so they're covered under warranty, and so you can finance them w/ the rest of the car. Otherwise there are more interesting/cheaper options available aftermarket.
