Guess which car is no. 1 in resale value?

And the answer is, according to Comcast.Net Autos

The 2007 Mini Cooper!

Before reading the comcast thing. I'm thinking the reason the Mini is #1 because very few 07 owners sell right?

No, it has to do with percentage of retained value at sale. This is a Vehix report. I just thought it was ironic that MINImus has Maximus resale value.

So why are so many owners selling a car that is about a year old, enough that they can gather good statistics on the resale value? Is that normal for most vehicles?

No, that's not how it works. It works on the estimate of the value of the vehicle if the car is sold, not based on numbers of cars sold.

The truth of the matter is, it indicates the highest desirability of retained value for a new car. Who wants to buy a car and have it drop to 50% of its value as you drive it off the lot? The Mini has the highest percentage of the retained value after we take it home.

Kudos, Mini/BMW!

Actually, it looks like they are talking about the 07 convertible - a 1st gen MINI.

True, it starts off with the convertible and supercharger, but it also lists the S and the cooper for the 2007 year. Whether the person writing the blurb is just too dumb to realize there's a difference between the R52 and the R56, I don't know, and it's pretty immaterial to the post. I just wanted to bring up that Comcast had a list and the Cooper was number 1.

Yeah...I wouldn't hold them up as the authority on this. Interesting that I traded my Wrangler (#2 on that list) for the Mini...

Why is everyone so skeptical about the Mini having a high resale value? I paid $25K for my Mini, I talked to my MA and I can turn around and trade it in for a Clubman while getting $23K out it with 1600 miles. Try that with a Chevy or Ford and you would probably get about $18k or $19k max on your trade in...

Traded for a Mercury

My 07 Cooper was traded 3 weeks ago for a Mercury (situations change). I paid 22500 for mine in September, i placed 12,000 miles on it, and was given a trade of 19,000 for it. Resale was fairly high given the mileage. However I paid 25,000 for a Mercury Milan, and I traded it today with 3500 miles, for 24000, so resale is subjective to say the least. Generally speaking you can get much more for your trade than most people are interested in working for, it just takes time.

I bought that car too quickly and decided I wanted something else. So as soon as I got the title I traded it away.
