Since nobody on this expert forum can come up with anything halfway intelligent (lol) I think it's an excellent Photoshop job designed to start threads like this!
Ummm... I have a feeling that it's telling you if the passenger side airbag has been activated or not. Some small children (or very small adults) might not trigger the weight sensor that is in the passenger seat and it's an unsafe way to drive so 1 person = only driver airbags are on and 2 people = all front airbags activated.
Well, since everyone is putting in a guess, here is mine.
It looks like the car in the picture may be a cabrio. (I have no idea why I think that, I just do). If that is the case, then that display could be a warning that there is a problem with the pop up roll protection system.
LOL good ideas everyone but here is the answer - that's my photo and it's in my R56 2007 Cooper S. It tells you if the people in the back have their seat belts on, if they do each person changes to a figure with a seat belt across. Surprised you don't have that in the US?

Yea I'm serious, I don't often have passengers in the back either I think the idea is really meant for when you've got children in the back as it tells you when you start the car as well as warning you if they remove their belt while you're driving.
