Disabling Tire Pressure Sensor???

Is there any way to disable the tire pressure sensor??? I have a new set of wheels and tires that I will be using just for autocross and I don't want that pesky tire pressure light on the whole time. Does any know if that function can be disabled and if so how to do it???

I don't know if it'll work, but try resetting it with your new tires on. That way it will be monitoring against the data that it's currently receiving (which is none).
It may work who knows...

Yes, just reset it.

You should be resetting it anyway if and when you put air in your tyres.

However, if your original wheels with sensors are sitting a few feet away, the system may still communicate with the sensors.

Doesn't the system run off of the ABS system, not the wheels themselves? This may be different in the R56, I don't know, but in the R50/53 the system doesn't have any sensors in the wheels.

The R56 has a true TPMS, not the revolution based one of the R53.

I can't imagine that simply not having the TMPS sensors would make it so the warning light went out. That would pretty much nullify the requirement for a TPMS.

just buy 4 extra sensors and keep them in the car when you autocross... haha i dont know if that would actually work.

I put regular valve stems in the track wheels, thus there are no sensors to tell the computer how much air is in my tires. Now, anytime the car is on my tire light in the speedo stays on. I just wanted to know if anyone knew how/if it was possible to make it go out.

Some R56 have the system that measures wheel rotation and compares it other wheels. That is what mine has. IIRC, it was around Sept. 2007 that MINIs started arriving with the sensors in the wheels. I believe it was timed with a government requirement that went into effect then.

I would stick a piece of electrical tape over the light during your autoX. You will also want to turn off your ASC/DSC, which will be another light on the dash, and another piece of tape

You can thank Ford and Firestone for that.

I think the gov't mandate is to bring standardization to run-flat tire compatibility. All 08 cars can now use run-flats, even if not equipped by the factory. Tire manufactures can now start offering more run-flats, hopefully developing better models. Car manufacturers will start ditching spares and making run-flats standard. One good thing is better fuel economy since the consumer will be forced to keep their tires properly inflated. I do not necessarily agree with the necessity of the system and the fact that it is mandated, but it is what it is....

To add fire to the fuel, the R56's new in-wheel TPMS doesn't even have on-dash pressure display per wheel, does it?

Nope. A warning light comes on when the pressure in a tire drops about 20% below the pressure when the system was reset. However, if you have the Nav system you are at least told which tire is low. It might report pressure then, but I'm not 100% sure.

Can't you just push the menu button to make it go away for a while? Not sure how long it lasts, but when my air was low I was able to get it off my speedo just by doing that. The warning is still active, it just doesn't show on your speedo.

No pressure readings. The sensors probably aren't that accurate. It would be nice to be able to monitor tire pressures in real time on the NAV, but it would probably take much more expensive hardware.

That the NAV tells you which tire is low is an improvement over the older system. The older system just knows the wheels aren't in sync. It doesn't know which one is the problem.

I rented a Chevy Equinox a few months ago. Being a gadget freak I played with its on-board computer and noticed that you could scroll through the tire pressure for each tire. If Chevy can do it, you would think Mini's would too.

Chevy needs everything monitored since everything usually breaks or falls apart
mini on the other hand is a well built car thus has less of a need to monitor everything

I changed the wheels on my October build MCS and have been living with the TPMS warning light since. I bought the wheels from Discount Tire Direct and they were supposed to be TPMS ready, but they weren't. They did ship me a set of adapters that should be arriving today to fix it by lengthening the valve stem shaft so the sensor can be applied (at least, I think that's what it's going to do). Because the wheels were supposed to work regardless, they're sending me this kit for free, so good on them for that. If I were to have to buy a new set of sensors, it'd run around $70 EACH! Have fun with that...

I wouldn't worry about it other than having the little light come on my speedo all the time - it's not like it flashes constantly or beeps or whatever - but since I drive an MCS, I don't have a spare, and now I don't have run flats Guess it's time to invest in a little donut spare anyway eh?

Yeah i'm gonna swap the sensors from my stock 16's which will be winter only tires, to my summer 17's since they will be on most of the time anyways. I'll deal with the warning light in the winter for the shorter period of time until I feel like paying for another set of sensors...or someone comes up with a fix for the warning light lol.

Does anyone know if the 2008 sensors will fit in wheels from the R50/R53? I'm getting close to ordering a 2008, and I have 6 sets of wheels for our 2002 MC and 2002 MCS, and I'd like to use one for snows. Not concerned for the autocross set...I'll ignore the light for the minute the run lasts.

I'll find out...but not for another month or so. Unless i have time to have a tire dismounted quick from my set of 2001-2006 Webspokes that i bought off of a fellow member. So as soon as tomorrow, as late as march lol.
