New MINI Owner in Nashville, TN

I purchased my new Mini S this weekend. I have learned that the oil only needs changing by dealership standards about 12k - 15k. That seems too long for me. What do you guys think? How often do you change your oil?
Thanks, Stan

I can't tell you how often I change the oil because my MINI is still on order, but welcome to NAM. What are the specs on your MINI? Show us some pics!

Oh boy, I haven't been here that long but I can tell you that just about everyone has a differnet opinion about oil changes.

Do a search for "oil change" and you'll see what I mean. I'm still waiting on mine but I think I'm going to go with what the car says for a while and see what happens.

Yeah, because everyone feels differently.. so to me, do it when you feel it needs to. If its before the service time. I had my car shipped from Germany, then when it got here, it was hit.. so I actually waited until 17000 miles, and I went in and watched them do its first service, and the oil was fine.. Congrats on your new car, and welcome to the madness!

My sales person was Jeremy. Bought a 07 because of the $1000 rebate and the 4.9% financing. Mine is Hyper Blue. I guess you live in B'ham. I'm form B'ham and parents still live there.

I change my oil every 2500 miles with full synthetic and an OEM MINI filter. I have 85K miles on my 05 MCS/JCW, and it still runs and drives as good as it did on day one. I might be a bit agressive on oil changes, but I KNOW that my engine is clean and well lubricated. I've seen pics of filters that have been changed at the 15K intervals. No way in hell I'd subject a car I paid $40K for to that kind of abuse.

Are the pics really that bad? Not disagreeing, just surprised that they would recommend such a long interval between changes if they were really that dirty. I know that they charge an arm and a leg for an oil change, but given the relatively inexpensive cost of the oil and filter, you would think that BMW/MINI would recommend a change more often in order to protect the reputation of their engines and their brand.

Just curios, is it an '07 Laser Blue/Black MCS manual with Premium Package and halogen bulbs? I traded in my '07 MC for an MCS at Roadshow MINI in Memphis, but was set on heading the extra 3 hrs over to Nashville if I couldn't reach an agreement there. Fortunately I did and ended up with a much better (IMHO) spec'ed CR/B MCS. You gotta love that low interest financing! I spoke a lot with a different MA, Richey, at Nashville and he was always extremely informative and helpful. It was really too bad I couldn't deal with him.

Man, I'll be in the Nashville area next fall for school. I hear the mini atmosphere up there is pretty good. There aren't many mini's down here in Gainesville, Fl though. I get to pick it up somewhere in the neighborhood of a week to 10 days from now... I'm DIEING!.

I'm in Huntsville and drove up to Nashville for my Mini. My MA was Richey Schafer. Great bunch up there in Nashville. Quite a few Minis in Huntsville.
