R56 Break-in Period, Warmup, Cooldown
Break-in Period, Warmup, Cooldown
While my 08' r56 is in going through its first stages of production, I thought I'd ask some questions to help me pass the time:
1. What are the "best practices" for the break-in period on a new r56? Max rpms? Max speed?
2. Do r56s need to be warmed up before driving, or can you just take it easy for a period of time and then drive "normally"?
3. Does the turbo on the r56 mcs need to be cooled down before you shut off the engine?
Thanks in advance

1. I just did as much city driving as I could for the first 1200 miles, since that will basically guarantee that you are varying speeds/RPMs
2. Manual says no, don't warm it up. I probably do an inadvertent 15 second warmup since I like to fiddle with the radio before taking off.
3. There's a built-in recirculation system you can hear after you shut off the car. No need to cool down the car, unless you've been on the track, IMO.

This subject has been talked to death on the forum. Pass your time looking around the forum, you'll find the answers.

Yep- it's a pretty frequently asked question. The short official answer is vary your RPMs as much as possible, and keep it less than 4500RPM and 100MPH before 1200 miles, and then ease into it from then on.
If you look around the forums searching for break in period, you'll find all sorts of discussion on it. Some people feel that a hard drive right off the bat is better.
Welcome to the club
What'd you get?

Sorry, I had run a search for "break in" and "break-in" but didn't get the results I was looking for. Will dig around a little deeper.
I got myself an '08 lightning blue (on top and bottom) MCS and it can't come soon enuff ... :(

Hey, no worries- it takes a bit to get used to the search here. Two letter words aren't indexed, so you probably only got a search for 'break'
You learn to include other words that are likely to be included like period and engine in this case: One here, another, and still more... :impatient
You'll often find that in many cases there's thousands of opinions on what used to be a simple question.
As surfblue mentioned, as you wander (or in my case, stumble
) around a bit, you'll find lots of stuff.
The lightning blue is a great color, it was one of my final three. The wait gets tough right near the end, but it's completely worth it!
