iPod adap and Aux input

If you have the iPod adapter, does that use up your aux input or can you have both? The reason I ask is that I plan on using the iPod adapter for my iPod and the Aux input for my satellite radio. Thanks!

I have the aux input for my satelite radio.

It is about 1/2 as loud as the radio or CD. The bass is not very much.
I have the output/input etcs turned up all the way.

I mentioned it to the service person when I was in for service.

He said "yeah, its a universal input".

Whatever that means.

You might want to test it out before you drill holes for mounting.

Talking to the service people I didn't ask exactly but it seemed you
can have both.

You can have both. iPod adapter goes in the secret compartment, and the aux is in the center console. Each has a separate selector in the audio menu.

Talk radio is fine.
I'm disatisfied over the music quality.

I have XM. We tend to travel on the weekends when
going someplace, as most people do. Sonic theater
which the tribe likes only plays M-F.

I actually might cancel over this.

It's only like $5 more per month because my wife
feels she **has** to have it. So its more like the
principle of it all I guess.

This answers my question. Thanks. Also the aux input sound quality has to be better than the FM modulator I'm using now. I'm so used to hearing the static that I don't even notice it any more...

Gjhsu, I see you're from Austin. I lived there most of my life. Just been in orlando for 6 six years but I can't wait to move back.

Ah, neat!

The aux will sound better because the FM transmitter has a limited frequency response that it can transmit (not that your car's stock speakers are much up to the task of FR anyway, but still). As good as FM is, it's pretty weak compared to a wire

Just to throw this out there... I just got my MINI (week 43 build) on Saturday, and was a bit surprised with the iPod connection scheme.... I was expecting the connector to come out in the glove box or secret compartment, but there wasn't one! When I asked, the delivery manager said that based on the package config (I had most packages, but I'll guess it is the convenience package), the internal wiring is there for the iPod interface, but the cable to plug into your iPod is not included. It cost me 57$. The cable plugs into the Aux port and the USB port (yeah, I didn't know that I was going to get a USB port either). The cable is really short and will only allow you to put your iPod in upside-down in the cup holder.

You may want to specifically ask how your MINI is configured.... Hope that didn't completely burst your bubble....

That's very different from the iPod integration I got. Mine is an iPod dock connector that goes to a box hidden away in the secret compartment. On the Audio menu, I select "CDC" (since it shares the same controls as the CD changer, if I had one), not Aux. So, I could have two different sources hooked up at once - my iPod, and another PMP hooked to the aux.

That's the configuration I was expecting. I haven't decided if I am disappointed or OK with mine yet. It does what it's supposed to, which is the main point. I just don't like having to disconnect my iPod to stow it out of sight all the time.

I just paid $575 to have the iPod Interface installed in the secret compartment. Now I play the iPod as a CDC and the Aux is available for whatever.

Here's a semi related question.

My CD player goes back to the beginning of the track
when I play MP3s (after the car is turned off).
This is a big problem for me because each track is about
60 minutes. It's impossible to find out where I was.

I've heard that there is software that can parse out my MP3
tracks (?). Does anybody know of it?

Now it's like this
Download to computer
Burn to disk track 1..2..3 etc.
I would be making it like track 1.1 .. 1.2 .. 2.1 .. 2.2 .. 3.1 .. 3.2

Can anybody give some advice?

THANKS

I meant to say its related because I was thinking about
getting the ipod connection for the secret compartment
(but that's $, AND i'd have to buy an ipod) and because
the aux input on my POS rio MP3 player doesn't give
the best sound quality at all. Plus it flys around on the floor.

That's the connection I was making but forgot to add that part.

Did you buy the (admittedly) expensive iPod integration that costs $570? If so, call your dealer, find out what's up. It doesn't sound like you have the correct adapter.

If you didn't get the $570 one, it sounds like you may consider getting it now. They can install it for you at the dealership (in fact, I think they have to, to program the computer)

No, I didn't buy the expensive integration. I was going to add it after the car arrived (dealer installed), but right before I ordered, they said it was now part of the convenience package.

So, the difference might be if you get it factory with the convenience package, or pay the $570 to have it added afterwards. You think?

You can install the secret compartment wire yourself.

But I'm willing to bet they find a way to charge you the same
amount (they do have to reprogram everything so the radio
recognizes the ipod and stuff).

So you might as well have them do it.

I was quoted $330 installed, for the kit, the install, and the reprogram.

My iPod displays correctly through MINI's radio, so the programming and internal wiring are fine. I was just expecting a different exit point.

The convenience package now includes a USB port which is different from the iPod integration (in the sense that you can plug in any audio device or flash drive with a usb port), but the same in the sense that if you plug an iPod in there (with the $60 BMW cable that you have to purchase due to DRM issues) then it works exactly the same as the iPod integration does now.

The $570 iPod integration works the same as your setup, but the iPod hangs out in the secret compartment. So you could get both, but it'd be rather redundant. Functionality wise they're the same; really you'd be paying almost six hundred more dollars just so the iPod doesn't have to sit in your cupholder.

Now if you don't want the Bluetooth integration (which adds the USB port), but you do want the iPod adapter that's a different story.

So it sounds like since I ordered the $500 iPod adapter option then I should be all good.
