MINI is totalled... replacement on order!

So it looks like it is safe to say that our MINI is a total loss, and since I was already anticipating this I went ahead and ordered a replacement last week. Got the same exact car, except I also added the LSD this time that I was on the fence about last time. I wasn't too sure if it was necessary for the type of driving this car gets, but after more consideration I think it is a good idea to have it.

Great news is that the car is in 151 status as of this morning, which means it entered the paint shop. Depending on shipping schedules, I hope to have it by end of month.

Yay for some good news finally! LSD is a good choice, you never know when it will come in handy in some tight traffic.

Wishing you luck for a quick replacement. Sorry for the demise of the previous MINI.

yeah, that's it basically... not a very aggressive driver, but it's one of those things that is nice to have when the time comes that it is needed.

it's also nice to have it there in case i decide to ever do any performance mods and put more hp down to the ground, it which case it would probably be more necessary.

MINI vs. pick up truck. Young, inexperienced driver going too fast around a curve on a slick road, he lost control and hit the MINI head on.

thinking of treating the new MINI to the JCW kit... I think I can get it under $2k. Do you think it's worth it?

I'm not the kind of person that does aftermarket mods, so it's really a matter of "JCW or not", not really "JCW vs. another brand of performance mods".

I am very impressed about the way the rest of the structure held up in this front end bang to protect the driver.

most people that have bought the JCW tuning kit really like it. If you want more power than you had and aren't really crazy about mixing in aftermarket components with more ostentatious results, then yes, go for it!

Did you scrape off a little sheet metal and send it back for the cloning?

Why on earth are people with little experience allowed to drive vehicles they CANNOT control?

Glad you were OK and you are getting a new MINI...

Yes, got a DNA sample but I "tweaked" it a bit to make it stronger (LSD and JCW )

Ouuch Yeah I will say the new R-56's have a 5 star safety rating compaired with a 4 star for the 05's. However, My 05 held up EXTREMELY well considering I hit 3 trees, a ditch, barbed wire fence and almost a cow Yes a Cow doing 60 mph around a 90 degree blind curve in the dead of night. 2 of the 3 people in the mini including myself walked away unharmed and the 3rd who wasn't wearing a seatbelt was extracted, rushed to the er and 7 stitches and some pain meds later walked out of the er 8 hrs later. Here's a link to my mix up. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=91102

What did the cow have to say about it all?

I'm glad both you and sarafil came out with nothing worse than order slips for new ones. I have been impressed with how well these MINIs take care of their people. I do hope all passengers are belted in now--it's been a rule of mine ever since seatbelts were installed in passenger cars. (Yes, I'm that old!)

I smooshed a tree sideways in a BMW 3 years ago. The car was totalled...but so was the tree. It snapped off about 25' up. I am SO glad I hit it, instead of the double concrete colvert that was behind it! (So was the trooper--less paperwork.) No, I didn't walk away--broke my back. Surprisingly, only the little airbag at the top of the passenger seat went off. BMW said there was no front end impact to trigger it, and no passenger (weight) in the seat to trigger the larger side airbag. Certainly a far cry from the early days of airbags when just about anything would set them off.

I think the MINIs do an even better job than my '01, although a lot has been learned as far as safety is concerned since then.

Happy motoring in your new babies!

Congrats on the new mini! I'm glad to hear that you are ok. I totaled my mini last month and put an order in too. I should be getting my new 07 MCS at the end of the month (with LSD).

Here is the link to my car....
