spare key

well i think i've lost my first key... WHICH ISN't good at all..

but was wondering how much it would cost to get a spare....

with all this technology put into the 07 (esp with the new style keys), i'm pretty sure it's goin to be expensive which is quite terrible....

Well, if I remember correctly, around these parts I've seen as high as $350...

Modern technology in a key... bound to be expensive. Sorry man! :(

it is 350 - my girlfriend dropped one through the sewer grate. MINI was nice enough to wave the $49 programming fee on top of it. took about 30 mins to program the new key to the car

My understanding is that you have to have proof of ownership, too.

spare

Dealer (eastbaymini.com) gave me TWO when I picked up the car. I assumed that was standard.

I would hope so! But, that shouldn't be too hard.. most people carry their insurance card/registration, which matches names and VIN numbers..

Cool as the key/fob/comfort access thing is and I can see how it drives the cost up (no more going to True Value and having them grind one out for $1.29) I sometimes wonder if it's really neccessary for all the service records and stuff to be on the key. There may be more information on the darn key than there is in my filing cabinet at home. Do we really need that?
