R56 Would you buy again?
Would you buy again?
I am wondering whether any one is largely happy with their new 2007 MCS? The postings in general seem pretty negative in regards to stock issues. Are these isolated issues on individual cars or can I expect many or most on any new MCS. Is it one in ten or one in fifty or every one with these stock problems? Any good experience with your MCS that would make you buy again. I put a deposit down ($450) and have ordered a MCS. Build will be complete 10/19/2007. Any one know the build week? Should I blow off the money and run? Are the late build cars doing better on QA/QC? Has the weeping wiper jets been fixed in these cars? What about the bonnet over heating problem? Also has your paint been holding up? Thanks for the imput!. I don't mind a few problems but!!!.

Bonnets are still hot but my washer jets only weeped with the factory fluid.
Overall while I have those 2 issues I have none of the others in 2000 miles and this car is such a blast I'd buy another one tomorrow.
The internet tends to exaggerate the issues with any car because only those that have them tell you anything. No one posts that thier car is going great.

The MINIs are a lot of fun but so are a lot of other cars. I was expecting that for the money that I paid for it there would be fewer problems. Knowing all that I'd probably go for a mazdaspeed 3 and save a little money and hopefully have fewer problems.
You must be new to internet forums
My suggestion would be to stay out of the stock issues forum unless you have an issue, it'll only give you a false sense that these cars are problem ridden.
Edit: Also keep in mind that anyone who is unhappy with their purchase will most likely want to vent about it here and try to discourage everyone else from "making the same mistake they did." Just keep in mind that these people are not speaking for the majority (and probably not more than .05% of the MINI owning population).

2 months and 4,000 miles so far and I'd get another in a heartbeat.
I LOOOOOVE my MINI.
Even sitting in traffic is more fun (of course the NAV is pretty good at warning me in advance so I avoid it), and twisty mountain roads are pure bliss.

I would definitely buy again, but I think I would have pick a MC instead of the MCS. I am driving way too fast these days... I haven't have a speeding tickets in 20 years but I am afraid I may be getting one soon.
I have only had one very, very, minor issue with my MCS in my year and 25K mi of ownership...
The airbag sensor in the seat was starting to go... the dealer fixed it under war. in an hour, and I got a free carwash, so great car-talk, and a cup-o-coffee for my troubles.
I looked at the MazdaSpeed 3, Honda Civic SI(4dr) , VW GTI(4dr). Only the Honda was screwed together better, but it was not as fun to drive and needed suspension, an exhaust, and intake from the factory (if you could get past the split dash)... but its engine (8000rpm redline) and shifter were amazing... along with its resale.
The MazdaSpeed3 was heavier, and felt cheaper. The dealer was an not nearly as, shall we say, professional, as the Mini, and their built quality is actually worse. The car car felt like a bruiser, and has semi-hiding blind spots in the rear... it also has lousy resale.
The GTI gave the MCS its best run for the money... more space, more refinded, and I'd get more speeding tickets as its REAL easy to cruise with that 2L turbo4 at WAY over 80... but the electrical issues scared the !@#$ out of me, that it would be harder to sell than the MCS.
The MCS won me b/c it handled better than all the rest... it felt the most nimble. It also has very good mileage, which is an issue when you drive 100mi/day.
The clincher was the dealer was great (treated me like a human making a large purchase), and they are within walking distance.
They had a great price on the car, as it was on the lot.
I have no regrets...
oh, and the Mini can haul more plants home from Costco than my wifes' 325.

Have only had Skeeter since 8/14 and only 3,300 miles so far, but have had no problems and none of the issues posted on NAM. Also no bonnet/scoop
heat issues either. So ya I would buy again with no hesitation.

To answer your question, would I buy again--the answer is I DID buy again.
I bought my first MINI used with about 24k on the clock. I loved the car so much I decided after a year of ownership to order a new one with all the options I liked and none of the options I didn't like.
Yes, there are problems, but the overall enjoyment far exceeded those problems. These cars are enthusiast cars, and as such, they are outside the realm of the standard auto. Of course there are more reliable cars out there. A guy came up to me in a parking lot not too long ago and was talking about how much he liked the MINI and wanted to know all sorts of things about them. He told me he had recently bought a Camry and it still felt like a rental car to him and how boring it was. Of course, the Camry is much more reliable, but those cars all look, drive, and feel the same.
There is something visceral about the MINI. You just can't let some of the hang-ups get to you.

Yes, I would buy another one!! I have a late January build MCS, and have not had a single problem, get great gas mileage, and love to drive it. I still turn around and look at it before going into work. Love my MINI!!
So just out of curiosity, how come some MINIs have extremely hot bonnets and others don't have that issue? Did they put an insulator or something under the bonnet in the recent builds?
Picked up May 10. 4,000 + miles and very few problems. It arrived without voice recognition working, but that just requires a software upgrade. There was a bug in the software released at that time. I haven't gotten around to having updated yet.
I'm very happy with it. Not sure what car I could find to replace it. I test drove a Acura RSX, Honda S2000, and a VW GTI. The MINI won easily. It was just more fun.
I think if you start reading forums for Hondas, or any other car, you will get the impression they are nothing but trouble. That is just the nature of forums. People come here for help with problems, or just to vent.

Unquestionably, I would buy again! My MCS was delivered April 30. It has been trouble-free and an excellent ride every day since. Now at 11,700 miles.

All car makes/models have their own pet issues/quirks, and reading car forums will only compound that impression. The MINI isn't a Pinto, or a Yugo. You shouldn't really have anything to worry about. And if something does break, that's what the 4 year warranty is for. At the end of the warranty period, if you say you've had enough, then go ahead and sell it.
If you want a MINI, buy a MINI. If all you're looking for is a cheap, reliable small car that gets good gas mileage, then buy a Civic or a Corolla.
