Rear Seats and cargo space

I have been looking at purchasing a Mini. I wish the cargo space was flat with the rear seats folded down. What I would like to know is how much weight one can put on the top of the rear seats when they are in the down position. I certainly would not want to tear the vinly/leather or worse leave some permanent indentation.

Thank You.

This is not a delicate car. All you are doing when you put the seats down is squishing the cushions. They are pretty stout. Unless you are loading up tons of gold (think Italian Job), I can't imagine hurting anything. This is no different from any other car. My wife and I have taken trips in my MINI and put the seats down to hold all the luggage. No problem.

I got the boot box for my car. It holds quite a bit of stuff that would otherwise be loose in the car and evens out the boot well to the level of the back seats. I like it better for sliding stuff into the car. I put a couple of woven rugs over everything to protect the seats and the boot box. I keep the seats down almost all the time as I rarely have people riding in the back.

You could take the seats out and put a floor in.

Currently under construction:

there's no vinyl/leather to tear when the seats are down, the backs are carpetted.

We towed our MINI across country when we moved and I can tell you that we loaded our 02' FULL FULL FULL - can't give you an exact weight but we could barely get the doors closed - LOL!!! The seats were just fine once we unloaded...

The other day I carried my old dishwasher to the recycling center in the back of my MCS.

safe to say you would be hard pressed to put too much weight on the seats. if you are really worried about the carpet you could lay down a blanket, now that this is settled, go buy the car!
