MINI-Jack Russell terriers of the road?

I found this article in a local weekly newspaper:
"MINI COOPER DRIVERS
Mini Coopers are quickly gaining on Subarus as Portland's car of choice. It's not suprising: Cute, Fuel-efficient and conciously un-macho, they're like four-wheeled Vespas. But maybe because they barely look like real cars, Mini drivers barely drive like real people. Nervous, erratic and aggressive, they're like the Jack Russell terriers of the road, constantly nipping at your bumper."

Hmmm.... They have obviously have not ever driven a MINI, but calling us the Jack Russell terriers of the road????

LOL

This ranks right up there with someone's review of ferrets as "Ronco pocket otters!"

"Mini drivers barely drive like real people. Nervous, erratic and aggressive..." I don't think I've ever seen a MINI driver that resembles that, well, maybe aggressive.

"they're like four-wheeled Vespas." That is such an insult.

What a load of cr@p!!!

If the MINIs are Jack Russell terriers, I demand that we have horns that sound like them as well.

Good idea!

seriously though, what is this person's issue with MINIs? If anything, they are enthusiast's cars, and are probably driven better than most! It probably goes back to their childhood...

Imagine what a MINI looks like to a lumbering SUV or Buick. Impatient could seem like vervous, and agile could seem like erratic to some half-conscious behemoth driver.

"they're like four-wheeled Vespas." That is such an insult.
I think they were referring to the cult status and anti-macho aspects of the Vespa. They weren't talking about the MINI's performance. Rather, it referred to the cuteness and popularity of the MINI.

Comparing them to JR's is far better than to bulldogs IMO. JR's are high energy and full of "spunk", unlike the sloth-like bulldog.

I think I've figured out. The offices of Willamette Week, the urban weekly that the blurb came from, are blocks away from Rasmussen Mini. All of those new drivers are obviously going past the ***** Week building.

Nervous, erratic and aggressive: That sounds like me when I left the dealership.

To be fair, this blurb appeared in a cover story of 32 different items in what WW calls "Kvetchfest: We bit** because we love."

NOTE: They did spell "consciously" correctly. Lesson for copiers.

Go to the article and look for the comment by Jeff Taylor. He said he's waiting for the reaction from Mini drivers:

If you've ever seen a Bulldog in a fight, they are anything but a
Sloth.... You do make a good point on the JR though.

Nothing like the constant energy of a JR...kinda like a MINI.

OK, I admit I was amused by the article. If only because I love a good kvetch now and then.

Maybe we like the Mini because of its unique nature. Anyone can drive a cookie cutter. A mini is like a snowflake, no two are alike.

P.S. A friend of mine wants to see if a mini can fit in the back of an excursion. I laughed for at least 20 minutes. You know, that would be a cool trick!

Haha. Agreed. I hate the sound of the horn. It sounds exactly like the Peugeot 206 which we sold recently.

Peanut is fantastic and probably as brilliant as your Mini!

Having owned two wire fox terriers, I see this as a compliment! Wish I still had one to put in the rear seat!

Nah.... not Jack Russell.

More like a snarling BadgerHound...

And no, I'm not running dogfights.
They're PLAYING... this is their version of a Dragon run.

I’m not sure I’d like being compared to a Jack Russell terrier. There’s one in my neighborhood that keeps trying to pick a fight with my 85 lb Chow mix. Rusty is built like a pit bull but, luckily, has mellowed with age. I shudder to think what would happen if the little terrier were to get what he wants. Foolishly aggressive and heedless of danger are not attributes I’d like ascribed to me.

I think the MINI is much more like my other dog, a Siberian Husky. Fast, highly maneuverable, nimble, high spirited, fun loving, beautiful and without a mean bone in it’s body. The MINI also has the advantages of not losing three bushels of fur or digging holes in my yard.

I'll admit it, I drive somewhat nervously but only around SUVs and other large vehicles going 75+ or riding my bumper. I do drive aggresively at times but do my best to keep it safe. I don't know, generalizations are often folly. I too am not too keen on the JR comparison. Oh well a MINI needs to be driven to be enjoyed so to those who have not had the pleasure.
