Turbo Blow-Hole

Does anyone know where the excess boost is vented? Verbal description GREAT, photo even better!

I am in love with my Mini's blowhole! I frequently turn off the radio just to listen to the pffffft when I drive around. This is my first turbo car. Are other turbo's as amusing? If so, I am bummed that I have been missing the fun all these years.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Usually on stock cars, the excess boost is vented back into the intake tract. Not sure about specifically where on an MCS

That seems to be the case. If you really like blow-off sound, here is a mod for you.

Yes it is called a bpv or a bypass valve. These are what recirc. the air back into the intake.

Anyone know if the turbo is upstream or downstream of the airflow sensor? If it's upstream, I suspect we're going to see a lot of aftermarket kits to vent the excess pressure to the atmosphere instead of redirecting it into the intake tract, for that extra-loud PSHHHH! sound.

Pretty sure the MAF is upstream near the intake, it wouldn't make sense to put it down stream after the turbo. Adding the bov will change the AFR and that's definitely not good, you can't just add a bov without some sort of ecu tune to compensate for it.

you too can be like all the ricers out there driving by and goosing the throttle to let us know of the money they spent on their mad-tyte-Blow Off Yo!

More often than not, an aftermarket BOV causes drivability issues. The only performance reason to put one on a turbo car is if the stock one isn't holding boost. Until someone puts a larger compressor on the R56, stock works just fine.
