1) It makes your car *sound*(edit) like crap.
2) It is annoying.

Downsides:

Probably voids your warranty for sure.

Gives your car that oh so wonderful ricer sound.

just put a air filter on at the maf. its so friggin loud. i put a 90 degree elbo on it and thank god it made it more quiet.

but the good news is...Forge is working on minis products! i love that cmopany

For a device like this to work, I'm assuming the MAF is downstream of the turbo, right? If not, I would think you would run into problems since you'd be venting air to the atmosphere that's already been measured by the MAF, causing the engine to run too rich.

I guess my Evo that has ran 12.3 in the 1/4 is a ricer for having a APS diverter valve then.

Scottriqui hit it on the nose.

The purpose of a blowoff valve is to release the pressure on the intake system. Mainly they are used to prevent compressor surge that can damage turbos or cause back spool. The only real time that you would need a blowoff valve is if you are boosting 21+ psi. Otherwise it is pointless and is known that it can hurt your powerband. This is usually not a problem if the blowoff is mounted upwards of the MAF sensor.

thanks wrx driver. so basically this is not needed until you are boosting like crazy and havent upgraded the turbo? thanks again for the input. O and i have a K&N and yea it has a great sound!
