Darn cup holder came out

So day two driving with a full cup of coffee. I took the turn a little too fast the coffee flew out of the cup holder and landed on the passenger floor mat. Of course the lid came off the coffee and the whole thing went on the rug.

So much for that new car smell, now it will be old coffee.

I drove it to the detailing shop and they shampoo and vacuumed the sucker right away. However, I know it will stink.

I noticed that he ring that sits in the cup holder space was attached to the coffee cup. It just came out with the coffee.

Anyone else have the ring come out easy? What is the fix? Glue was my first thought.

I just had the same thing happen, but with a cup of soda from McDonalds. I tried pressing the ring back in place but it doesn't stay, so I think I'll have to glue it back in.

No answer for you, but I just wanted to note that I have had the same problem and have been debating glue as well. If you put back the rubber ring and then the plactic insert separately and make sure to have them lined up exactly they seem to stay in longer, but they still pop back out from time to time.

I've also been thinking about leaving them out all together. It will holder a bigger travel mug that way.

Well I went to the dealer, they put the holders back in good as new... until I put my coffee in the next morning. POP out they both came.

So Silicon or glue.

Wow! Thanks for the warning! I know I've seen some people complain about how tight the cupholders are... Like they don't fit a 12 oz soda can...

So I noted it is a very snug fit. I think this isn't a mistake by mini, they didn't want your drink flinging all over the car due to loose-fitting cup holders!

BUT, you would NOT expect them to come out like you describe Cowtown- Again, thanks for the warning, I'll be careful with my drinks now! (Mine have not come off.... yet!)

Thanks for warning

Having done similar years ago, I keep my espresso in a travel mug with a tight top. Even if it turns over only a few drops of coffee come out.

I remember all too well the coffee-in-carpet smell.

I went ahead and used Krazy Glue on the driver's side inserts. Worked like a charm.

I left the passanger side inserts out for now. This allows me to fit my favorite travel mug without blocking my driver's window controls (which I need to access my parking garage).
