The thing I hate about BMW is they always seem to charge about 10 grand for the bigger engine. They tease you with the looks/price of the 128i, then make you drive the 135i and you start looking at ways to pay for it. It was the same with the 318i, which back in the day you could get the convertable for $20k. At least Mini only charges 3k for the turbo.

the bigger engine always comes with options standard that the base model does not, so it's not all just a power upgrade

True, but there's no way to just get the engine and keep the price down like you can with the Mini. They know how to work it. (and it works)

The 5 door is hot like fire!!! I saw a ton of those when I was in London a couple months ago. Kinda looks like a BMW Mazda3 5 door. I love 'em. Would totally buy one if they were coming here, but sadly, they're not.

Seriously?! I'm the other way around, my e30 is my fun car, and my r56 is my daily!

Incorrect. The 60's and 70's 2002s had both 2 and 4 piston fixed brakes stock. Case in point: my 67 1600-2:

Ahem! MINI does the same between the Cooper and Cooper S. The fact that the price delta is palatable for most of us does not mean they use a different marketing strategy.

The 1-series is just another way for BMW to continue escalating their prices. The 1 will cost what the 3 did previously. The 3 is already encroaching on the 5 pricing.

This is not exclusive to BMW and I do not have anything against them. I love BMW's and would own several if I had the means.

The 135 will have 300HP and 300 ft-lbs of torque. It'll basically fly. I've been thinking about it since it's just a little more than a loaded MCS and will be FAST. I know it doesn't have the heritage in the same way as the Mini, but it being touted as the present day 2002, which pretty much defined the sports sedans for BMW.
NO and at the risk of sounding like a Porsche advertisement:

MINI... There is no substitute.

I love the look of the 135i, and as an old hotrodder I miss RWD. I do fear though, that the headroom won't compare with my beloved MCS. At 6'4 my MINI is the only small car I can comfortably ride in. So unless the prove me wrong and provide tall person headroom, I'll be sticking with MINI and hoping for a future rear balanced AWD version.

That said, the 135i looks hot!

The only thing keeping me away is that they are not considering the hatch that europe has. Although the stats are showing one wicked fast ride for not a lot of money.

Are we forgetting why we bought the Cooper in the first place! The Cooper does not look like the rest of the ho hum vehicles that are out there. The BMW looks like a Mazda 3 or a BMW 3 series. If these cars turned me I would have bought one in the first place. Nothing like a Cooper!

The only BMW that I’m interested in and might be getting is the Z4 coupe. The rest of them look too much alike. Not that they are bad cars but I want something a little different and that is why I like the Mini cooper, Z4 and…… Z8

Hello,
