Under the bonnet insulation

When I test drove an R56,which was great, I noticed that there was no insulation under the bonnet. Other than cost savings, does anyone know why?

there is some (maybe 20%) insulation around the area of the hood scoop.

Probably to keep let heat escape and keep toom much water form coming in from the cutouts in the scoop.

I too am missing the under hood insulation on my 2009 MC...
Would adding one be noticably quieter in the cabin??

The engine sound is part of the Mini feel, there was a recent thread where someone found a resonator to send engine noise to the cabin, so I can imagine why they didn't insulate the hood against sound.

Here is a 08 MCS hood... thermal blanket only in the area of turbo and bonnet scoop. With that said, the bonnet construction clearly shows that thermal blankets (aka "insulation") can be installed on either side of the existing middel thermal blanket... maybe is a Euro car option???

On the turbo-equipped "S" models, the insulation is a BMW engineers' inside joke (known as a "gotcha"), to make you think your hood scoop might not melt.

TOOOO DAMN funny!!!!!
I installed some DISCOVERY heat sink panels on my hood, they do actually work if not hit with debris. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...mageID=6369258
