Can you hit Sport button "on the fly" ??

Is it safe to hit the Sport button while you're motoring down the road, or better to come to a stop or put the car in park first? Dunno if it makes any difference...

Thanks!

I've turned it on and off while driving. Can't see where the problem would be. It is just a computer change in trottle and steering response.

just remember it kicks up revs so if you are already at highs revs you should be careful

What would be funny (or scary) is if you hit the Sport Button and the nav system said, "I'm afraid I can't let you do that, Dave."

Not only can you, but you SHOULD !

You're motoring down the road at a nice pace, you come upon an old lady taking her Buick out for a stroll and there's a Peterbuilt coming in the opposite direction about a quarter mile away... you SHOULD move her into the sport or manual mode and crank up those RPMs !!

THEN you can go back to your nice, leisurely motoring.

I probably shift into sport mode eight or ten times a day.

I've found that the more aggressive throttle map doesn't kick in until you release the accelerator pedal and then get back in it. It has to do with the throttle-by-wire signal to the ECU; it doesn't know what the closed throttle setting is for the sport mode until it sees a minimum low voltage signal to work upwards from.

I've punched the sport button on uphill runs in the twisties and run for a mile or so before letting off. When I do, I can immediately feel the change in mapping. Before lifting, it continues to run in the more passive, non-sport mode.

The power steering assit changes immediately.

If you push it on the fly you might start thermal nuclear war. And when they ask you why you did it, you'll say the computer took over on its own. Sorry I loved "War Games".

Goddammit, I'd **** on a spark plug if I thought it'd do any good!

But I digress. I agree sport whilst motoring, but maybe not as you shift from 1st to 2nd while turning onto a B road under full throttle with one hand on the wheel. Otherwise, go for it. I've tried to see if engaging it at speed resets the throttle position but have yet to feel it decisively.

I haven't driven an r56, but my understanding is that you should make pressing the sport button as routine as buckling your seatbelt before getting underway.

I tend to turn it off when I find myself in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Non-sport seems a little smoother for that kind of situation.
