annoying engine start reminder

Can the dealers program this OFF or has anyone figure out a way to shut this stupid thing off. I think we all know when our engines have fired.

I find this extremely irritating. why didn't they program it to say LET'S MOTOR..THAT I COULD HAVE LIVED WITH.

that ringing sound after you press the starter button. Sounds to me like
the racket an English butler would make before announcing DINNER IS SERVED.

Buckle your seatbelt before you start the car and see if it still rings.
Thats the only reminder i get, when i don't buckle up first.

Thanks--you guys are RIGHT ON. I was starting the engine first. My others cars seat belt reminders are not as obtrusive so I just fire up first then buckle up.

Now I feel like a real dope. I wonder why my MA agreed with me when I asked about turning it off. I guess a good salesperson agrees with the customer no matter how inane the comment.:impatient

thanks, again.

Haha... My 3 y.o. daughter thought it was a 'happy music' the car plays for starting the car and she kept asking me to make it play the song again.

Don't be so hard on yourself. That's how you get to know your Mini. Now, about that MA: That's why he's a.....salesman.

Yeah, the lesson for me (one I learned on my '03) is to allow time to adjust to your MINI and it's idiosyncratic workings. R56's turn signals, chimes (seat belt and low fuel), start button/key, rear hatch release, wiper settings, radio controls/display...it all feels weird at first. Now it's second nature...no problem....love it....alot!!!

Hehe. I had to (yes,...well,...wanted more than had) make a run to the grocery store for some milk one night.

So I get the milk, toss in the passenger seat (bagged, of course) and headed home. The seat belt chime would go off intermittently as the milk jug rocked in the seat.

I was laughing so hard by the time I got home I was sore. The Wife unit just looked at me like I had lost my mind. She shakes her head, "Never knew anyone could be so happy to drive a frakin car".

After that, the milk goes into the cargo net in the boot.

I've had to fasten the passenger seatbelt when carrying my camera bag on the front seat. The weight sensor is quite sensitive. I guess they expect 10 lb. people might sit there.

I start my car, then put on my belt, to give it a couple of seconds, and I don't hear anything. There is about a 10+ second delay on my car before I get the seat belt warning. I have had my cd case cause my seat belt warning to go off, when I have it in the passenger seat. But, it hold 360 cd's, so it ain't exactly light.

I just leave my passenger seat belt connected... i haul a lot of groceries and my purse alone is usually enuff to set off the sensor... i also haul a pony keg every 2 weeks from the liquor store to my hotel for our evening reception... oh yeah... and my husband refuses to wear his seatbelt *insert angry cursing match here* so it just stays fastened...

IT PLAYED THE HAPPY MUSIC TO MY 17 LB PUG THE OTHER DAY.

I was not happy nor was the person I was talking to on the bluetooth mic.

Guess the dogs will have to buckle up..

you know, is there any way for them to program it so that the passenger sensor doesn't set it off?? I rarely have a passenger and that will drive me crazy! haha

If you don't have a passenger, there should be no problem. There's a sensor that relies on weight to detect if a passenger seat warning is necessary (used also to determine if the passenger side airbags need to deploy). If you carry heavy enough stuff on the seat the sensor will think someone's sitting there and the alarm will go off.
