Sunroof screen???

Well after all the rain that we have had down here in the Houston area, the summer sun is out and burning. My car sits outside during work hours and nicelly tucked in the garage at night.

Here is something interesting, I have the double glass sunroof and just noticed that it does not have a shield to completely close it off from any light coming in. The only thing is a mesh type of thing.....am I missing something?

All my previous cars (Audi, BMW) have had a solid panel that slides shut.
I need to tint my windows, cant stand it anymore...

You could always put a cool graphic tint on the roof glass to reduce the light level further.

I had some 5% tint added to the sunroof. It helps, but some days in So Cal you just need a bit more.

There is no full panel like in the BMW's and others. The mesh screen is all there is.

The cost to tint the sunroof wasn't that expensive.

How about when you're driving around? Does the sun bother you through the tint and screen? I'm ordering my MCS on Friday and I'm debating whether I can live with the sun on my head all summer long.

Let me throw my 2 cents here. It is not very bothersome but when the car has been sitting in the hot sun for sometime; i just want to shut it off if you know what I mean. The Mesh fabric helps tremendously and could not have gotten the sunroof w/o it. I love the sunroof, just going to add a shade to it for those times that I've have plenty of sun. As some of the other guys suggested, I am going to tint the glass the panels first.

I had my sunroof tinted, and it's a big improvement. We're well into summer here in Houston and it's not nearly as hot as I expected it to be. I generally open the sunroof briefly to vent the cabin when I get in, and that helps a lot. I strongly recommend a tint, though.

Did you tint the interior side of the glass?

Hi! Glad to hear that some of you have tinted the sunroof. I'm in Fort Worth Texas so the summer heat can be brutal! Did you tint the interior of the glass or put the tint on the outside like you would with a flag? I had read some early posts saying that some had done the interior tint on the glass sunroofs and they cracked from the heat buildup so I'm a bit concerned. How long have you had your roof tint & what % did you go with? Was it done by the dealer? "Dame Edna" is at the VPC per the OL so I need to make a decision. I'm so confused! Help!!!

Sometimes it does still bother me a bit. And I like the sunroof. I'm adding a sunroof graphic in the next week or so, made of perforated vinyl, which (I think) should do the trick without totally blacking the panels out.

I live about 90 miles north of Houston. I wouldn't mind having a solid shield for the sunroof, but i wouldn't want to loose the screen one, either.
I use the vent option when the car has been setting in the sun for awhile. 3 clicks and hold and it drops the windows and opens the sunroof. Cools off to ambient quickly.
I didn't want to get a sunroof, glad my wife opted for it.

The tint goes on the inside. I have limo tint on the sunroof. It lowers the interior temperature significantly. I was very much surprised. It also keeps the sun from baking my bald head. Before having the sunroof done, I researched the shattering and splitting legends thoroughly and they are just that. The fact that the glass is on the roof makes amlost no difference. If your sunroof tint peels, it's because it wasn't done right or was done with inferior products.

Does anyone make a replacement shade that is solid, instead of the factory one with little holes?

Actually, you can just hold the first click and it will do the same thing - that is a feature I really like, too.

If there was, unburto's thread would have been short lived.

These were posted on another thread.

http://www.stratmosphere.com/mini_interior.htm

I haven't tried them, but would be interested to hear if anyone has and if they work well or not.

I park on the streets here in NYC, and it does get hot inside. While driving, the mesh shade is inadequate these summer days, especially for my 3 year old daughter in the back. I ended up ordering fitted sunroof shades mentioned on another thread at Stratmosphere.com.

I have those, too. But, because they have to be put on and taken off each time you want to use the sunroof, I hardly ever use them.

Stratmosphere shades

I have the sunshades from stratmosphere. In south Texas it does get brutally hot inside. They lower the interior temperature considerably. They slip in between the netting and glass, and are easily removed.
