R56 My one complaint...
My one complaint...
...has to do with the seatbelt. It rides up and rubs against my neck. Anyone figured out an adjustment for this? I'm tall, and this may be part of the problem. Anyone else have this problem? Besides the discomfort it seems like an unsafe position.
If my seatbelt hit me where it does the girl in the ad, I wouldn't need the pad!
Mine chafes as well, and I have an '03 which has the adjustable postioners - doesn't help tho..............I'm seriously considering a racing harness. Schroth is it?

Does it reposition the belt, though? That's the thing that really concerns me, although comfort is a close second. Seems to me I saw some sort of bracket that positioned the belt differently. Anyone remember seeing it?
They're crap don't bother. Unless you are very careful and pull slowly enough the clip part of the holder disconnects from the base. I've had mine on for about 10 days now and I think I've only successfully pulled the belt through it 2 or 3 times.
I'm thinking about crazy gluing the 2 parts together but I suspect that won't help either so I'll probably just remove them and chalk the $50 up to a bad investment.

I pumped the seat up all the way (good suggestion!), and we'll see tomorrow when I have to drive to the doc. In the meantime, I participated in an autocross yesterday, and the damned belt kept riding up on my neck as I went around the corners. Very uncomfortable, and distracting, to say the least. Incidentally, I did drive a loaner MINI last week, and it wasn't as poor fitting as mine, so maybe there's a way to do it.
Having survived a high speed crash once, in a BMW, I'd really like to get this right. I want the belt to come across my chest, rather than my neck. (As for the crash, I did break my back, so it's kinda important to me.)

Okay, the belt DOES fit a little better with the seat pumped up. A little strange since I'm tall and I see through the upper part of the windshield, but it's liveable. I still don't think the belt is as safe as it should be. It should run across the center of the chest, and mine doesn't.
I don't remember having an issue with seat belt comfort until I read this thread, and now every time I notice my seat belt rides awfully close to my neck and in fact bothers me when I'm wearing only a T-shirt. Thanks!

For what it's worth, I'm short (well... is 5' 7" short?) with a bit of a gut. Being able to adjust the height doesn't seem to change where the belt falls on my collarbone, either.

Check this out: http://www.andoauto.com/hardware.htm. I'm short and the belt rests on my neck, too. I don't know how well they work, but they are cheap enough to give them a shot.
Words of warning, though: The first item on that site is a hangar type thing intended to latch onto the anchor point of the belt/harness on the pillar. On the R56 (at least) that point is recessed, so it may not hook on. On the other hand, it looks like it's flexible, so it might work. For the price, I intend to find out.
OK, got the package a couple days ago. Do not get the drivers'-only doohickey. There's very little room in the B-pillar for anything to be inserted into the seat belt mechanism. Also note that while the thing is only $6, UPS ground charges a minimum of $10 for shipping. Andover does not inform you of shipping cost at checkout time.
I'll probably place an order for the other doohickey in the next few days. Anyone want to piggyback? I figure it might be worth it if I'm going to pay that much for shipping.

The thing that "hangers" on to the shoulder belt anchor does fit on the R56 (don't know about the R53) because to anchor is recessed. I did get the on-the-belt disk and it does work (Item Number WSADJ2). They recommend that you locate it right by the shoulder belt anchor. If you do it that way, though, you have to let it release the belt each time for the belt to retract. If you don't care if the belt doesn't retract, no problem. However, I found it better to place it on the belt so that both parts of the belt coming back up from the seat belt buckle are secured. This slight adjustment keeps the belt off my neck, the device is not against my body and the inertia locks still work. I recommend the "disc-looking" device.
P.S. I drove from Maryland to New Jersey and back today and it was very comfortable and effective.
