I agree. Orange is an evil color and should be removed from the color spectrum. Especially burnt orange. Hideous!
But I think you are stuck with it in the speedo. Sorry,

I would love to be able to use a color similar to the GTI's. Seems there's got to be a way to change the LEDs....

Tough break that maroon is not a good color for lighting. Personally, I like the orange. And the horn too.

Actually, the orange/red color is easier on the eyes at night due to reduced eye strain.

Putting that aside, I like it!!

Yup. Amber and Green are the best colors to reduce eye strain. They are the colors for the old monitors. I remember when my friend first got a BMW many many years ago, we thought the dash has such a cool color (amber).

Thanks Lynn I'll check it out. I'm not so sure about the green and amber being less eye strain. If it were all computers would have it. For me its slightly evil and just annoying when you have cool things like mood lighting in the car. As many members said, it should be adjustable.

Green, not so much, but amber is definately easier on the eyes.

There are medical studies all over the place cofirming the red spectrum is much easier on the eyes for night time lighting than any other spectrum.

The only reason other colors are used in cars is due to focus groups. Not medical studies.

Ask your eye doctor about it. I am sure he/she is very acquainted with the medical reasons why this is true.

I haven't heard about anyone changing the colors for the R56 yet. It has been done for the 1st gen and the technique should be the same. You have to take apart the dials and replace all the LEDs. It requires very good soldering skills (SMT technology).

See this thread (lots of pics and information): https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=94118

Sorry, burnt oarnge is University of Texas color (tu), maroon represents The Fightin' Texas Aggies of Texas A&M.
Lots of friendly jabs go back and forth over these little things. Nothing a handshake and a beer won't fix (or intensify).
I do think MINI should change all the lighting with the mood lights. Just a bulb swap, aint it?
