New Mini...Advice for breaking it in?

I'm expecting to pick up my '07 MC in the next week or two. I've had my current vehicle for over 10 years. I don't drive hard, not a speed demon...plan on keeping the Mini for awhile.

Any advice for breaking her in properly? If the timing is right, I have an opportunity to take her on vacation shortly after picking her up from the dealer...lots of interstate driving (I keep it around 70-75...the tickets were too expensive!). Too much too soon? Go for it?

I took two round trips to the beach (800 mi total) the day after I got mine. Just vary your speed, and don't go over 4500 rpm....

Follow the procedures in the owner's manual and you'll be fine.

All i would say is follow the manual (i did). One thing i would say is DO NOT take it on a highway long distance trip until the break in is over. from what i have heard it is probably the worst thing you could do to a new engine.

I think you will be fine. Just drive it normal, as you said you are not a speed freak.

All NAMers are wrong. Don't make it lazy. The only way to keep the car on its toes is to drive it like you stole it.

I am driving like it's normal. I've got a little under 400 miles and have taken it to 4500 a couple times and once accidently to 5000rpm, but still under 100mph. It take a bit of effort to take it past 4500 if in normal driving conditions.

Seems to be breaking in just fine. MPG is around 30.5 with mixed driving. Still having lots of fun in all aspects of driving.

Vary your RPM, don't be afraid to give it some gas (low-mid RPM WOT or close to it), and allow for some engine braking. At 400 miles, the engine is mostly broken in already, so don't worry too much.

thanks motormouth. I drove it like it will be driven for the rest of its life... Hard. WOT shifting at higher RPMs and making sure to let the engine do some breaking.

think about this as well, and its alluded to in the other thread, MINI tests their cars randomly they have to run those random cars harder than 4500 to really test anything. they do that themselves in the factory. do they void those warranties? what about the test driven cars that are driven hard? I know I drove mine hard. will the people buying those be buying a broken car from the dealer? I think it is a well built engine that doesnt need to be told when it can achieve its full potential
