R56 External GPS?
External GPS?
So for those of us for would rather have the full speedo rather than the the speedo on the edge with navi in it,
what external gps systems do people have for their r56s?

Using a Nuvi 660 with my new R56. Very happy, though I do want to find a way to conceal the charging cord a bit more. The great thing is I can just take it with me if I park in a city and need to get around for the day.
Another Garmin fan here - I have the Street Pilot C330 in my new R56 and love it. It's much more economical than the optional nav, easily portable to other vehicles, and of course I've set the voice to speak with a British accent.

Where/how have you mounted your c330? I picked up a c320 (same as 330 with maps on SD card, I think vs. internal) at Fry's on special for $200 and it's actually really good. It even came with the latest version of Garmin mapsource.
For basic nav and POI, you can't beat the street pilot, since many of them are marked down right now.
I'm thinking the windshield mount might put it a pretty far reach away.

The mount I like best is lower left corner of windshield, just to left of tach as you're sitting in the driver's seat. Easy reach to the touchscreen from there, and doesn't block your view of the road through the windshield. Another good place is lower center windshield, just above speedometer. That location gives your passenger full access to your GPS as well. Just depends on your preference...try both since it's an easy install with the suction cup mount.
I vote for the tomtom one. It has a small compact size and SD card. i have 2 SD cards one with North american maps and one with European maps. It is also small enough to carry around when I walk in NYC or Chicago

As for concealing the electrics, that’s easy (well at least on the R53’s). Install “add a circuit” and run the wire up into the dash via the access port on left side of car (see foto of right hand side **the same as left**), then slide wire in gap next to windscreen.
