Automatic locking once you leave car?

Is there any way to program the car to automatically lock once you leave the car if you forget to lock it. After looking through the owner's manual the only automatic locking feature I see is for locking once the car is on and/or moving.

I don't think any car does that. What if you were cleaning your car or something and left the keys in the car and then got out. If the car automatically locked, you'd have just locked your keys in the car

Another scenerio, what if you left something in your house, had the car running, jumped out of the car to run in the house real quick, then the car locked itself. Now your keys are locked in the car and it's running

See what I mean.

I think that the dealer can program that to do what you want.

While I agree with aem421, I do think that with the Comfort access and the fob that this should be possible.

In answer to your question, moose, there is no way to do that on the MINI, at least not without software mods. Aem, those things you mention can be accounted for. For example, if you leave your keys in the car, the MINI will not let you lock them in from the outside, at least not if you have comfort access.

Ok that makes sense, I'll just make sure to always remember to lock the doors...I've just got to get used to the fob, its a brand new thing to me

Actually, the Lexus does. If the key is not sensed after X period of time (30 seocnds, default), and there is no one in the car, then the car will lock itself.

This feature can be programmed off, on, and the time period set, you can also have it issue an audible alarm when it activates, turn on the outside side lights as well (they fade off).

The only parked auto lock feature on the MINI, which can be set, is that if you unlock it but do not open the doors after a certain time, it will relock.

I might be wrong here, but I believe you can program your MINI to automatically lock itself while parked. Under the Automatic lock section on the OBC, you have several options (reference owners manuel, p22). 1, you can have it lock as you drive off, 2, have it lock if it sits for a period of time with the doors remaining shut, 3, both 1 and 2. Now here is where my assistence with this ends... I'm not sure how option 2 works in relation to where the fob is. Logic would suggest it will not lock with the fob in the car. So, wouldn't this programmable feature work for what moose is looking for?

No. moose is looking for a feature that locks the parked car if he forgets to. The only time the MINI will do that is if you unlock it while it is parked and don't open the doors. It will not do it if you park and get out.

If you have comfort access you cannot lock the doors from the outside (door button) if the fob is in the car. And you cannot start the car if the fob is outside of the car (even if it's right next to the car).
I think the reason it won't automatically lock if you walk away is the if someone is still in the car and it locks and they open the door without unlocking an alarm goes off and the only way to shut it off is with the fob. That happens on a lot of cars.

You can ONLY get the MINI to lock itself if you unlock it and then do not open a door.

You need to program this function using the computer - at least that is the case in the UK.
