Interesting photo, it reveals with certainty that the tailgate will be split doors, and it also seems to show that the mini doors will be on both sides of the car ( there had been speculation, as noted in the article, that the door might just be on one side to keep weight down):
Why does one comment say that the Traveller will hurt RX-8 sales? The only similarity I can see is that they both have the rear doors that open the same way.
I know Gabe at Motoringfile.com still says just one split door. For RHD models would it split on the opposite side? Seems like if they have the tooling why not have it open on both sides. Even though I could see the passenger side getting used 80% or more of the tim for most. I would think any cost savings from making one side only would be offset by having a RHD and a LHD chassis unless it's just a bolted shut door without hinges on that side. I can see people ordering the UK parts to get the OLDRDOO (Opening LHD driver rear door open option) if that is the case.
Well, I got to see the Frankfurt Concept at it's unveiling and must say that the "Clubman" chassis doesn't look bad "in the flesh". The proportions looked just off from the standard 2 door, but IMO once you get used to the slightly stretched look, it's fine. The test mule looks pretty chunky and just... But, I think the masking and other camoflauge could play a part in that
I'll reserve judgement until the production model appears in it's final form
