My Mini is too loud!

I bought a 2009 R55 mini John Cooper Works Mini about a month ago.

When I bought it, it was running straight pipe. No Catalytic Convertor or mufflers. I installed the Catalytic Convertor today but it's still too loud!

What is the goto mufflers for this Mini? I want a good, tough sound, just not super loud. Trying to make the wife happy...

I want to buy from ECS Tuning because they are close enough I can go pickup & save on shipping. It's where I got the Cat even though it wasn't a perfect fit.

I remember… you added the Milltek down pipe, right? If the car is still too loud, look underneath and see if there is a resonator in the midsection of the exhaust. Those early JCW cars had a big resonator to help with sound. The later cars have a second cat and smaller resonator.

I did add the Milltek...

I don't have to look, I know it doesn't have a resonator.

I didn't see a resonator when I search if you could help please?

This is the later cat and resonator pipe:

This is the early JCW resonator pipe:

This JCW mid pipe is kind of rare, but they show up on the used market occasionally.

If you'd like to fabricate something, one of these would slot into the midpipe:

I would think adding 2 mufflers would be how to make it more quiet.

I've loved Magnaflo for many years... Might go that way. Too bad ECS doesn't have any!

Do I need the mid pipe for some reason? Seems like a lot of extra money I don't want to spend.

The mid pipes I listed would be the "easy button" replacements. Remove the clamp at the down pipe, cut the exhaust, remount, done. The Magnaflow option would require two cuts in the right spot, and a couple extra clamps or welding. You may only have room for one of those added in.

R55 Clubman S/JCW exhaust for Magnaflow; " the part has been life cycled out and is now discontinued "

https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2009-...t/Performance/

This is all we have, milltek, scorpion. lot of domestic exhaust places have slimed down their offerings for euro car, not just MINI.

Thanks for the orders and the local pickup.

I really didn't want to spend this much money but will this for sure work on a 2009? And will I still need to add mufflers to make it quiet. So my wife is happy?

Happy wife...

Do you have any pictures of what the exhaust has going on underneath your car? There are no guarantees that anything will make your wife happy. I’d say if you can find another R55 Clubman that is all stock, and see how it’s exhaust sounds compare to yours, you’ll be able to tell what these purchases will do for your car.

My car has a catless down pipe with an otherwise stock later JCW exhaust, and I don’t think it’s that loud, but my wife thinks it can sound loud at times. That being said, she wanted to take it on a family road trip, and was fine with the noises it was making during the ride.

^^ +1 i bet you don't have that resonator should help.

The r55 JCW has the scrubber (second cat that's non monitored) and a little res stock, the one above will fit. It looks like the same length just not the scrubber included

Should look like #2
