I just picked up our first Mini today. It's for my son, but I'll be honest, after driving it, I don't think it will be long before I pick one up for me!



It's a 2008 Clubman S with 78k and automatic. There are two things I want to fix/replace. The antenna has seen better days, so cosmetically I want to replace it. The only thing I notice that needs to be fixed is the automatic shifter. It doesn't stay locked in, and I'm guessing the retention spring wearing out is normal wear and tear item. I found a replacement shift **** on Mini mania, but do I need to replace the whole **** to remedy the lockout not working?

Also I use Amsoil in all my vehicles and their web site is recommending the european car formula 5w-40, but the maintenance schedule I found online states 5w-30. I'll look at the car manual when he comes back from his joy riding with his brother. What maintenance items/brands are recommended. I want to start fresh and change the oil, oil filter, transmission fluid, spark plugs (what plugs are recommended), and inspect air filter.
Mann filter or OEM oil filter?

 

Friendly buch here I'd really like some advice please. Do I need to replace the whole shift **** or is there a spring that can be bought seperately to replace the worn or broken piece? I have the spring out, it's a flat bowed piece, I can snap a photo if it helps.

Yes you have to replace the entire shift **** with the plastic pin on it, can't just get a spring for it. I may even have a used one, otherwise I can get you a new one.

We use and recommend 5W30 full synthetic as that is what MINI recommends.

 

 

You just pull straight up on it. Careful to not hit the sunroof. We have the button/**** assembly if you need.

 

I ordered from mini mania a it a few minutes after my follow up post, because I figured if it was available I would have ran into it during my search. Thanks for the tip on removal.

 

Welcome to the group! Nice MINI! Always loved the green. Being a 2008 with N14 motor please take time to learn about "death rattle". Essentially the time chain stretches or in another way allows it to skip time damaging the valves and possibly pistons too. You can youtube MINI death rattle.
