Clubman JCW versus Golf R?

Has anyone done a serious comparison including test drives of a Mini Clubman JCW versus the VW Golf R? Impressions?

Overall speed I'm sure the Golf R is much faster. I drove a 2014 GTI DSG and I loved it. Now GTI vs JCW I much rather have JCW but so much more reliable depending on the years you're looking.

I don't know if most enthusiast/review sites would even put them in the same class to review. I feel like the clubman gets thrown into the wagon category far too often. Jalopnik just did a review on the Golf R a couple days ago.

Reviewing comparative specs, I do now see that a GTI with the performance pkg (220HP) is more analogous to any Mini JWC. A 4-door GTI is exactly the same length as Clubman.

A GTI/Performance Pkg might be a little easier to source than a Golf R anyway. My local dealers (Seattle area) are tacking on a $3K premium for the R! Unethical - And I told them so when I walked out of a VW dealer yesterday!

I've owned an MK6 GTI and an R56 JCW. The GTI is way more practical and much more refined, maybe a little faster in a straight line too. I wanted to sell it about a week after I bought it, it became boring unbelievably fast, it's a very bland car. The JCW at least has some character and it's much better through the corners.

I know they weren't exactly the cars you're looking at, but similar enough I suppose.

Not really sure how one is to compare an all wheel drive car to a front wheel drive car as they would be in separate categories in my mind. GTI sure. GTI R, that's more along the lines of comparison with an STI, Focus RS, Lancer etc.

The F54 Clubman JCW is an ALL4.

Though this is the sub-forum for the R55, not the F54
