Does one need to buy a cabin filter from the Mini Dealer or can one purchase a good one elsewhere? If so, where is that elsewhere ?
Thanks,

Just a heads; I just recently bought maintenance items from Advance Auto online (you normally get an instant 20% off code and free shipping for over $75). A few Mann oil filters (like $6 each), air filter, serp belt, etc, and its easy to hit the $75 mark. I saw they had the Denso version of the carbon cabin air fliter for about $16 (minus 20%) vs the $57 list from the dealer so I got one. Mini version is superior, for sure, a lot more flexible and has 52 folds vs 38 in the Denso part. But still, it works fine, no noise, no less or more, air flow, and I'm going to toss it in a year. But next one will be the better Mann filter for $18 on Amazon.
I'm embarrassed to say, the last time mine was changed was when the dealer did it under warranty in 3/11! I didn't even know there was one until I bougnt the engine air filter online and saw the cabin one listed. Luckily, it was my wifes DD for the last 5 years and she only put about 25k miles on it and it was garaged. The filter wasn't that bad at all.
