Okay, I have been on the list at two dealers for 15 months now. Crevier is more than ready to sell me a car that I will compromise on... also with their flat $3000 PREMIUM or the $4875 package. Well I don't want to pay a premium. The second dealer in escondido still hasn't built a building and says possibly mid june they'll have cars available. So... I called East bay this morning and they say they're not selling to anyone in so cal they have to be fair to their northern california customers and so I can't buy one there either. Should I go to Atlanta? TN? I do have specific requests. I want a the yellow S with pkg one and heated seats and xenon lamps, I am also willing to wait the wait. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to place this order?

I missed that. You mean if you walked into a Northern California dealer with deposit in hand and your own financing, they wouldn't sell a car to you?

No, of course not. I called in an inquiry to see if I did fly up they'd sell me a car. They said no, only if my zip code was in Northern CA. I do have a business conference there in August, maybe I'll try your suggestion.

TMGRobyn, since you say you are willing to wait the wait, I'd highly suggest going to Long Beach. They are selling strictly at MSRP with no forced add-ons. But as you'd probably suspect, the wait is long. I'd guess it'd be at least a year or so before you placed your order. There are plenty of MSRP dealers dotted throughout the country, and some may have shorter lists than Long Beach. The problem is that they may also have a policy of not selling to out-of-state or out-of region patrons, a la East Bay MINI apparently. There may also be issues with regard to the law. Just make sure an out-of-state dealer is able to order a car "manufactured for sale in Ca" (I'm assuming that's where you live). If you do go out of Ca, Hank Aaron in Atlanta, Westchester in NY, and Peabody in Massachusetts are supposedly a few good ones.

I agree with fiver. Long beach is the way to go here in so-cal, you just have to wait. People drop out of line all the time. That is how i got mine so quickly. As always, Beware Irvine BMW!! Scary folks.
