This doesn't apply to me thankfully, but I was just wondering how other people have dealt with it. I hear folks traveling to distance lands in search of their dream Mini. I would have been willing to do the same but what happens when that check engine light comes on and the Mini dealer closest to you isn't the one you purchashed it from?
Just a thought.

P.S. My Chili red, Sport, Cold weather, Cruise, White top Mini from BMW of Murray (SLC,UT) is slated to be built on 7-19-02.

There shouldn't be any problem since they are getting paid for doing the service whether by the BMW for warrenty issues or by the owner. Either way they are getting paid for doing the service.

There isn't an issue w/it...other than maybe some hurt feelings  I checked with the dealer closest to me - about an hour and a half away - and they said it was fine. I'm buying my MINI in Memphis, TN ... about 7 hours away.

I live in Seattle, went to Virginia to get my MCS, and had my local dealer check out the cold-start problem tuesday. They treated me great, just as if I got it from them.

I bought my Cooper S in Irvine CA because the AZ dealer wasn't open yet and Irvine promised the best delivery date. They treated me very good in Irvine. Then I came home with it and had a few minor warranty issues (passenger seat back came loose, clutch peddel cover came off). The Scottsdale dealer treated me very well. I had concerns about power (it seems thet the inter cooler doesn't do much when it is 114 degrees outside) the Tech went for a drive with me and spent a lot of time answering questions. I am very pleased with the service I have gotten from both dealers. not to mention the Scottsdale dealer gave me a free loaner while they worked on mine( I'm just a little disapointed it wasn't a new Z8 BMW only a Ford Focus).

Dealer in Ft. Lauderdale wouldn't do anything (but want to charge me) for cosmetic issue with interior of my Cooper. They'd considder letting me speak to the Mini Rep, but he was only going to be there for 15 seconds in two weeks. My dealer didn't program the options for me because I took delivery on a Sunday, and the Ft Laud. dealer told me I'm SOL there, too... The long and short of their reasoning was because someone has to pay for the technicians time in programming the dealer opts. and they can't justify charging me.
