R55 Bike Rack

I have been looking for a simple rear bike rack for my 2011 R55. I have an old Saris Bones rack and I keep thinking... yeah, that could work. BUT... I have been googling rear racks on Clubmans for a long time and I can't find a single instance of someone strapping a Saris type rack on the back and there's nothing for sale. So, I'm concerned that it could damage the doors or something. My plan was to rest the feet on the top of the bumper and not against the bottom of the door.

Does anyone know why people don't do this? I don't want to go to the expense of having one of those hitch type racks and my bike is heavy enough that I don't want to have to hoist it onto the roof.

Thanks

I've tried to figure this out as well but never came up with anything. Went with a roof rack.

Thought about mounting the top straps through the tops of the barn doors (since there isn't clearance for them to hook to the tops of the barn door windows) - with the clips just hanging down the inside while the doors were closed and resting the bottom on the top of the bumper but never actually tried that approach.

How would you attach the top straps on a trunk mount? A good rack place would let you try it on, I'm sure

There is no way unless you could hook to the tops of the barn doors, then close them. But I sure wouldnt! You would have to have the rack pads on the glass, but clear the wipers. The metal on the doors is way too flimsy. Roof or hitch. Roof makes sense to me. Probably get a roof rack myself after I sell my truck.
