R55 Oil Control Valve Repair Kit
Oil Control Valve Repair Kit
Twice now I've had my 2012 Clubman S start up and get all funky on me and die. It happened a week ago, so I waited for a minute and started it up again with no issue. Happened again this morning, so I took it into the dealership. They resolved that issue under the emissions warranty (whew, a $2k fix!) but they also found a few other issues that need to be addressed. They told me that I need a Oil Control Valve Repair Kit because there's a small oil leak that is leaking onto the wiring harness and is soaking it. I was told that eventually that the oil would sucks itself into the entire wiring harness and fry everything, resulting in a $5-6k repair. Has anyone else experienced this? If the bid wasn't $1295,I would immediately trust them and get it done, but that's a lot of money. Has anyone else experienced this?
The valve isn't the expensive part from what I understand. It's the fact that they also have to replace that section of the wiring harness where the oil has leaked on it. It's a 6 hour job. Should I have a second opinion done before I drop $1300?
If your talking about the oil solenoid valve, I did it myself. The part was $120 dollars. You have to cut the oil pan off with a special tool. If you search I've posted about it before with pictures.

You do not need to drop the oil pan to repair the volume control solenoid harness. There is a revised harness and plug that fixes the oil leak, and does require you to cut the wiring from the DME to the solenoid and wire new pigtails.
Yes, you need to fix it ASAP as it can and will progress further into the wiring harness and eventually ingress into the DME, causing a hefty bill.
I've got a car in the shop right now that is in that predicament, it has 106xxx miles on it and the 2nd DME connection is full of oil and is currently waiting on a new DME and wiring harness fix.
The DME alone is $1,595 not including the repairs of the solenoid leak.
We repair the solenoid leaks for FAR less than $1300 but that is if the oil has only permeated the harness and not made it to the DME.
