Used Clubman; Few Questions

Hi to all,

We bought a 2009 Clubman S, and as it is used, there are a couple of issues, cosmetically, that need to be addressed. The first one concerns the cigarette lighter receptacle up by the cupholders forward of the shifter. It's very loose; I can actually lift it out of the console. There is no lighter element in it, and I think it's missing something like an illuminated ring around it, if I'm looking at the right pictures. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and can advise me on what's missing?

The other issue is the chrome that dresses the hood up by the grille. This piece is apparently held on with plastic clips, and several of these are broken, and the trim piece is loose. I imagine it needs to be replaced entirely; any idea where to pick one of these up? The nearest dealer is over 90 miles away, but if that's my only choice...

Lastly, there's the third brake light. The lens cover is broken at one end and moisture has gotten up in there. I'd like to replace the lens. Again, where would I get one? Dealer only?

I'm trying to get hold of a Bentley manual, so hopefully I'll get a grip on the "how-to"; I'm needing more of a "where-at" at this point.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

I haven't taken any section of my Clubman apart, unlike our Countryman. but, the front cupholders each had a screw in them on that car, under the bottom rubber mats, that once removed, allowed the cupholder assembly to be lifted up easily to work on the lighter assembly if needed.
The plastic lighter ring is also the retaining sleeve for the metal lighter socket as you already posted about. Both parts are very cheap, I bought several from ECS Tuning in case one falls apart on either of our MINI's.
Ring is installed first, then you line up the matching tabs of the socket to the ring's inner portion, and gently slide the socket down into the Illumination ring.
I haven't seen any lighters with bulbs built into the plastic rings on either of our cars though, just the very normal 2 pin connector for the socket terminals.

Ray, what city are you located? I have the chrome trim that goes around the grille, they're a little dirty but can be cleaned, if you would meet me somewhere I wouldn't mind giving them to you as they run around $60-$75 at the dealer, or if you pay for postage, which should be like $10 I'll send them to you.

I have a brand new chrome upper trim sitting in my garage. My dealership replaced it under warranty when they used it to open the hood, breaking the clips. I had a JCW's version sitting in my garage when it happened, as I didn't want them to break the brand new one. Super simple to install. Pay for shipping and it's all yours.

Wow. I did not expect such responses; you folks are great! Just so I'm clear, the chrome piece on the hood is item 5 on the image below:

Used Clubman; Few Questions-245.jpg

Am I correct in thinking that this is all one piece with the clips and/or nuts (items 6 & 7), or are all these separate items? The chrome itself is okay; it's just the clips that are broken.

I added my location as well; I don't know why I didn't before. I usually do on forums.

Thanks,

Ray

We have the front hood chrome trim as we often find them broke when customers bring their MINI in for routine service.

sorry no fancy pic.

We also have the 3rd brake lights in clear or red.

And we just got the new updated Bentley Manuals which are great.

We can also get you the parts to fix the Cig lighter as that too is a common problem.

The clips are attached to the chrome. So, if the clips are missing/cracked/or split, the whole piece is garbage. Just make sure to keep the four screws and you're good to go. I think they break so easily because people will use that to lift or close the hood.
