Are you lowered at all? They're unlikely to be just a straight bolt-on affair. The 18x8 et35 is obviously the easier of the two to fit. The 8.5 I think would require a lot of work to fit under the front fender without rubbing.

Not lower yet. I guess the question that I should be asking is. What is the biggest wheel and tire combo I can do and still be a little lowered.

the offset should be a bigger concern than the rim width - lower the ET number the further out the wheel and tyre. Not only will the wider track width from low ET wheels risk issues with fender clearance it will increase tramlining.

Most Mini factory wheels are around 45-48mm which is great for clearing the arches (moves wheel inboard towards suspension components) with factrory width tyres. As you increase tyre width you will need slightly lower value offsets to clear the suspension, but even increasing tyre width by 10mm should only need a ET43 wheel, increasing 20mm would need a minimum ET38 at which point you get close to the arch !

I drive 8x18 et 35 with 215/35 tires, lowered on a KW var 1 coil over. sit's just right. Wouldn't go wider. Just my thought

I think these wheels will work based on your comments, but not sure on the tires. Please let me know I need to act quick to pick up a deal.

Wheels are 18x8 ET 40. Tires 225/40

I'm not lowered, but I do have NM Springs waiting in the garage. 1.2 drop.

Wheels: Wheel 1 Wheel 2
Wheel size 18x8 ET 40 18x8 ET 35
BackSpace 154 mm (6'') 149 mm (5.8'')
5 mm (0.2'') shorter.
Rim Lip 5 mm (0.2'') wider
Typical Weight ~ 26 lbs / 12 kg ~ 26 lbs / 12 kg
Tires: Tire 1 Tire 2
Tire size 225/40-18 215/35-18
Section width 225 mm (8.9'') 215 mm (8.5'')
Sidewall 90 mm (3.5'') 75 mm (3'')
Tire diameter 637 mm (25.1'') 607 mm (23.9'')
30 mm (4.7%) shorter.
Rim sizes 18x6.5 to 18x8.5 18x6 to 18x8
Circumference 2000 mm (78.7'') 1906 mm (75'')

I think it will fit, since you don't have coilovers but I don't like to much tire, looks odd.
