"Cheap" diy perfomance upgrade

Looking for "cheap" diy upgrade suggestions. Are cold air intakes or ecu chips etc..worth it?

The MINI already comes with a cold air intake and most aftermarket units will just make a little more noise without making noticeable gains on their own. Your bet bang will be a tune. The factory JCW tuning kit is the most expensive, but it is the only one that will retain your factory warranty. There are others out there that are a lot cheaper.

Burger motorsports JB+ will give you 20hp/30tq for $300. Best bang for buck out there. Intake/exhaust will only add noise.

JB+ is for only N18 motors right now.

Yes, the N18 came on LCI cars and 2013+ JCW.

My 2010 R55 S is a N14 just as the OP's.

If you can find an Alta Access Port for sale, that would be the best tuning option for a MINI with an N14 engine, like your 2010. There are canned tunes for it, but a tuner can make a custom tune for you, if they have a Cobb Access tuner for MINIs.

It was discontinued, because of changes to the ECU on N18 engines, but it is an excellent tuning device for the N14.
