Red oil light came on driving home.

Was about a block away from the house. Oil light and rattle sound. Parked and snooped around and saw this. :-/ barn doors are covered in oily goodness.

Happened to me too! The timing chain tensioner backed out of the engine block. MINI issued a service bulletin on this a while back. Talk to your dealer they should fix under warranty. I've had several others contact me about this and I've provided a copy of my repair invoice to a couple who requested.

Good Luck!

I'm hoping all goes well when I call Monday. Should be able to use the road side service right? And would it be an issue if its about 82,xxx miles? I got the 100k extended but its so limited I'm beginning to think it was a waste.

Apparently my Service Rep told me my car didnt fall into the recall, but they would repair it as per goodwill. i dont undertand why since it was the tensioner bolt coming loose and the timing chain stretched. Gave the ok to get the chain, guides and bolts replaced so it should be ok tomorrow. He added my PCV valve had a problem and it was part of the valve cover so it was a 370 dollar part to fix. wtf?? and if i wasnt going to get it repaired it would lead to oil leaks. -______-

I'm surprised you didn't munch a bearing. Often if the oil light comes on it's too late. It's more like a "congratulations you just bought a new motor!" light. Keep a close eye on it when you get it back and if it seems to be running fine then you were probably quick enough on the shutdown to prevent damage.

I have a feeling there was a problem yesterday as they put things back. The rep was suppose to call me back before they close and he never did. I guess I'll wait for his call today.

I believe the issue was with the n14 engines. The newer ones n18 are superior in every way. I believe they eliminated the issue with the tensioner bolt coming loose, and already come with a heat shield for the turbo feed line. Then the added burble when in sport and the extra ponies. If I knew this I would have gotten something newer. :-/
