Costco Gas MPG

I took a drive this weekend to Boston, MA from Perth Amboy, NJ. The drive is about 244 miles. I filled up with Costco gas and drove 5 miles to pick up my girlfriend (5 spirited highway miles)... Then I took the NJ Turnpike and basically all highway with zero traffic up to Boston. I used a little over half of the tank (according to digital readout). On my way back i filled up. I used about 1/4 tank (according to digital readout) on the way back.

Costco Gas (Premium) R55 JCW with bags = 28.68MPG

Citgo Gas R55 JCW with same amount of bags and a lot of beer in trunk = 36.6MPG....

now either Costco gas sucks or Citgo Gas is amazing. You be the judge, but I don't think waiting 10 minutes in line is worth it for the 20 cent/gallon savings. Now I think so even less. The only reason I filled up at Costco is because it was on the way...

Any other experiences with gas stations?

Need to be careful with up/vs back fuel loops.. Downhill runs can greatly effect your mpg.

I run Sunoco 93 almost 100% of the time.

On average I seem to be getting...

Generally- highway 65 = 39/36 mpg
75/80 = 36/32 mpg

City = 30/27 mpg

That's 100% with sport mode on.

Occasionally on the highway I'll run for 20 min stretches with sport mode off to cook the crap out of the motor/oil.. (+40 deg temp jump for both oil and coolant..)..

sorry to thread jack, but what are you talking about here? Could you elaborate? Thanks.

As for MPG and different brands, I HAVE noticed a difference of about 3-4 MPG in town driving. I attribute it to differnt amounts of ethanol in the mix.

I got a whole thread on this... I get 41-42 at 69mph, sport mode always on with 93 octane,

HOWEVER, im using 91 NON-ethanol all summer, and I get 44+mpg... all documented on fuelly.com

my commute is 50.5miles one-way.

I hate ethanol.

I meant the part about :"Occasionally on the highway I'll run for 20 min stretches with sport mode off to cook the crap out of the motor/oil.. " Does sport mode let the engine run cooler???

With BP I was using 93, and averaged 300 miles a tank and averaging with sport mode on/off average of 29mpg. With Shell I use 93 and use it regularly now and get about 370-420 miles on a tank with 33mpg. I also used Sunoco, not bad, I used 94 and got around the same tank wise as using Shell. I averaged 32mpg.

So my diagnoses, BP sucks.

Doesn't work that way on my 2013 JCW Hardtop. On the dealer installed MINI temp gauge it runs between 90C (194F) to 95C (203F) with Sport off or on. Even when traveling through Mesquite NV last month with an outside air temp of 113F. Never saw anything over 95C, usually right at 90C. My JCW was a Feb 1st 2013 build. Maybe something has been changed, or the gauge isn't accurate?

Jcw 2013 runs at 90-95 all the time. The S runs at 90-95 with the sport button on or a/c full cold, max fan.

How bout that.. I thought all the 13's did it.

Can you look at sensor data at all? I wonder if the gauges take/modify readings and tweak them somehow.

Don't know about sensor data. My ML 500 Mercedes V-8 that I traded for the JCW Hardtop ran the same exact temps. 90 to 95C. Must be a German thing!
