Shall we wait for 2014 clubman or go with 13 one?

Hi everyone,

I am new to here. My wife and I are thinking to get a new clubman S. But we just found out that they have already stopped making any 2013 clubman. The coming 14 model is the one we can order now.

Shall we wait for the new model coming out or try to find a 13 one from the dealer's inventory? Seems only few clubmans are in stock and it is hard to find a perfect one that has all the packages/features we want.

Any suggestion?

Thank you in advance!

i just love my 13 clubman jcw...it is the quirky ness about it that i love. from what i have read about the new platforms that are coming out, the changes to the various models will occur in stages...so the 2014 might be the same platorm...but you need to talk to someone much more experienced than me....i just love driving my clubman, i enjoy it so much more than my earlier hardtop jcw

I just cannot believe I got a reply from my hometown. Hello my friend!

Jcw is awesome. I wish I could get one too.

The sales guy said there won't be a big change in 14 clubman. Maybe some new packages will be available. But no more 0.9% apr for new models for sure.

We are not sure if we can have some discount for getting a car in their hands. Any experience to share?

Thanks.

Well you could always wait to see what's coming for 2014. There should still be something to take off the lot going forward, just less options. So if there isn't one that's the one you have to have, maybe wait.

Personally I found it tough to find one with everything I "had" to have. Oddly enough I found a better used one than what the dealer had, but my insurance company covered a new one so I just did a custom order. Really glad I did and the car has everything I want, especially the color.

You definitely be able to negotiate. When I went for '09, I was told that if I got 5-8% I'd be doing well. I ended up getting 6% off one off the lot. With my '13 I got 4% off the custom order. Anyway, they should negotiate some. And everything is negotiable, including the stuff they're going to try and sell you during the financing process.

There's an options thread in the R55 forum here that might help you with your choices.

The 2013's will continue to come down in price especially once the 2014 models hit the showroom (early next year I was told, later for the hatchback).

Thank you guys very much for your inputs.

How do you think of mini's integrated Navigation system? Is it worth $1500?

My current car doesn't have a navi. Sometime, I wish I had one. It is more convenient than to keep looking at a mounted portable GPS or my iPhone.

What do you get with integrated navigation that you don't get with a portable $150 GPS?

I ordered navi on our CMJCW for a couple of reasons. i don't like the "tacked on" look of a portable unit. I couldn't use the Garmin/Mini unit that mounts to the tach and hides all the wires as we are also getting the JCW gauges.

I also like a large integrated display for navigation. As I am driving I also like to see a large area surrounding where I am at to see what the surroundings look like even if I am not navigating to anyplace specific.

The Mini navigation just has a really good look where it's mounted. For me, although I understand and appreciate the historical reasons why the large speedo is in the center, i like the fact that the navigation unit makes good use of that space while still maintaing the speedo there as well.

yep it's freakishly expensive, but it's America......we liked it so we ordered it

I intentionally configured mine to be without Nav. Instead I rely on my iPhone running GoogleMaps

With GoogleMaps (GM) and iPhone I get:
1). Integration across all my devices. I can look for a destination on my MacBook or any other laptop/desktop and the same location will appear on my iPhone GM.
2). I can do a web search in my iphone browser and seamlessly get the location and directions
3). Voice turn by turn by GM
4). I can search for destination by speech recognition
5). Center speedo has traditional look with a full needle swinging around.
6). Portable GPS is not updated and current in most cases

I just negotiated on a 2014 countryman and in the course of discussion, the dealer said the Mini is offering a $500 discount on all their 2013's.

Hello and Hello to the Forum!

New Mini owner... we just picked up our '13 Clubman S four days ago and LOVE it! I was about to introduce myself and post some pictures of our new fun machine over on the "Post pictures of your clubman" thread when I saw this.

I didn't even think to research whether a new model/refresh was coming for 2014 when we ordered ours Clubman. So at first I was a little bummed to hear there was a new version on the way... I did the same thing years ago when we got our 2009 BMW 330I only to have the new 2010 design to come out 6 months later.

Then I saw those spy pix and rumors on the homepage here. It looks like Mini's design sense is going the way of their Paceman with more models and there is a 3 cylinder engine rumored (hmm...). So I'm very happy to have gotten what may be the last model year where the Clubman still looks like the quirky little race car I've always liked.

That said.. you gotta figure Mini knows what they're doing and it is sure to be a good car.

As for deals, we got $3300 off using the $500 dealer deal and they matched a $2800 discount my bank was offering. Don't know about financing as we bought it outright.

Best of luck with your decision!

Well, it looks like the '14 R55 is the same body as the '!3...

Soo.. aside from price.. I say go with a 14'. You'll get the last run of them, and you'll be able to order options you want rather than having to pick what they have on the lot.

You got quite a discount there off of ur mini. I got about $1800 off of MSRP on a 2014 Countryman and I thought I was doing very well. Whether to get the old or new model year is an individual choice. I liked the idea of getting a car with all the updates and when I looked at the 2013's I could not get everything that i wanted. Therefore I went new model year.

Gud luk with ur new Mini.

Mel

Congrats on your new R55. Definitely post some pics.

I'm curious as to the $2800 you mentioned. How was your bank offering a $2800 discount?

Thank you!!

I tried to post some pics in the other thread but it never showed. Maybe the links didn't work ( I used dropbox). I'll try again with flickr links!

The deal was from USAA FSB through their car purchasing program. I initially called to ask them about financing and if they also offered the $500 off. The rep told me they would since it was a factory rebate and would also offer the $2800 in the form of a coupon towards a car purchase if we bought our Mini using their service. It didn't matter if we financed, leased or paid cash.

I'm guessing the bank acts as an auto broker, but since the local dealer agreed to match it, I didn't pursue any further details.

Interesting. So do you have be in the Armed Forces to be join USAA? I assume you personally bank with them.

Yes. The last time I checked, you had to serve(ed) or have a parent or spouse that was/is (my father was Navy/SAC/Air Force). I do bank w/ them and they handle all our insurance. I highly recommend USAA if you're eligible. Very competitive compared to other institutions, but it's the amazing cust service that sets them apart...... I hope this doesn't sound like I'm selling something, ... for the record, I have no other affiliation with USAA aside from being a satisfied customer

Though if you don't have access to USAA, I can't imagine they're the only financial service with a new car sales/leasing program.
