Error Code P0301 ?

I recently purchased a new 2012 Clubman S, and after about a month of ownership and less than a 1,000 of driving, I got a CEL. After reading out the OBD port (i.e. at the local auto parts store), the code came up as being P301 - cylinder one misfire. Interestingly, if it wasn't for the fact that the CEL came on, I would have been none the wiser, since the vehicle seems to run perfectly fine. According to the dealership, they've been seeing a lot of this with quite a few vehicles as a result of the extremely cold temperatures we've been having here in the New England. In any case, they felt that the issue might correct itself after the vehicle has been driven some more. Unfortunately, the dealership is located nearly 100 miles from where I live. With that said, is there a safe way to reset the code by disconnecting the battery in order to see if the CEL comes back ?

Why not have the AP store clear the code? It will clear the code just until the ECU picks it up again, which could be seconds, minutes or days or not at all.

If you can believe it, the AP store has a policy that only allows them to read a code, however, they will not clear it for liability reasons.

Yeah that does suck. Go to a different store or try the battery way. Just understand that the computer can make it come back on at anytime until you fix the problem if there truly was one.

The AP store guy is following the rules set by his company....and maybe the law. However, some of them will re-set it for you....esp if it's not safety or pollution related....it might be worth it to try another store.....
