JCW Temp. Gauge in R55

I understand that the verdict is split on the "look and feel" of OEM gauges for R56/R55... Some (most) hate it, some (including me) like it.
I like them mostly because those are OEM instruments (installed by dealer's service and covered by warranty). I am not a fan of numerous DIY kits and mounts I have seen on various MINI forums (including this one ). Cutting the wires or tanks or pipes to install is not "my forte"...

Yes, some third party manuf. make some nice looking clocks, but after installing my JCW temp. gauge today I liked what I got. You be the judge.

I like it I was debating the same setup and if I wanted 2 gauges or 1 gauge and the navi mount. How is the view of the nav screen through the wheel? It seems like you would lose a bit of the upper left corner of the screen.

It looks awesome! You did a great job on the gauge. By the way was it a p.i.t.a. to install, and if you don't mind me asking, how much did it run you?

Got it at Morris Town MINI, their "internet price" (check web site) that is lower than any other dealer I checked in US or Canada... I did not mount it by my self. I took it to dealer for warranty purposes. Charge was for 2h labor with 20% discount coupon. Total cost of mounting (with local GRAB TAX of 13% !!!!!) was $290. Ouch....

But, when I sit in my BROWNSUGAR I don't think about it... I just enjoy

Would you consider posting the parts numbers for everything that it took to get this result?

I like it, but more importantly, it provides much needed information. I've had a water pump issue that might have been avoided if I'd have seen the water temperature.

Thanks

Great job.! it looks awesome, I've been searching for last two months about JCW gauges and finally decided to get two clock set (water temp. and toque ind.) for my 12mc. I'm not sure about the installation but probably I'll do this on my own..

and I've a question about the lighting, does JCW gauge light up when u unlock the car ? like other gauges ?

Those gauges look very nice at night and reflect a consistency in color especially at night.

Here are the part numbers and options. You can custom select the gauges to what you like.

Has anyone installed these gauges themselves? I was looking at the official instructions and they leave a little bit to the imagination. ;-)

Thanks, I already have the official MINI instructions from the motoringfile site, was just wondering if anyone has actually installed the kit themselves and if they could share any new insight on how to connect pins B7 and B8. Pin B8 doesnt even have a terminal on the end, just a cut wire. The location descriptions for those connections are a bit vague. B7 has a terminal pin end and yet it says to use the "mini connector" (scotch-lock type tap) while B8 with no end terminal is to be inserted into a connector. That doesn't make sense to me.

My question about the JCW gauges... Preface: I understand the H2O temp, but why the other two? WTF cares about Lateral G Force??!??!? How about Oil temp? Pressure? Turbo Boost? Things that actually matter.

I would greatly prefer oil pressure instead of "relative torque" but after searching extensively, these gauges are the neatest setup available....I'm going with the 2 gauge setup (torque and H20 temp).

I have the temp and lateral G gages in mine. Installed as factory options so no choice on what was in it. The temp gage I use, the lateral G gage, well, my gage cluster is symmetrical.

I still haven't installed this gauge setup yet (got sidetracked by other mods) but have now decided to just install the coolant temp on the left side. I have the 2 gauge kit (bought it before I took delivery of my MINI 2 years ago!) and will just remove part of the bracket made to hold 2 pods and tuck the unused cable out of the way inside the dash.
As for symmetry, I've kind of gotten used to the idea of having it look asymmetrical with just one pod on the left.
