Dealer bluetooth snafu

Had my oil changed and the dealer did a service bulletin computer upgrade while I was there ..... really screwed up my bluetooth mode. The new service bulletin upgrade changes the frequency of the bluetooth mode. People who call me come in loud and clear, but they cannot hear me because of the static and garbled language.

Went back to the dealership and they showed me what the different carriers now carry in phones that will work with this new freguency.

My Motorola cell phone that I have used in my Mini for two years no longer works, so I either turn off the bluetooth that I paid for in my Mini, or buy a new phone which costs money.

More fun and games from Mini to cost me some more money. I know that this sounds way out, but the service manager and a mechanic confirmed the cause of my problem. It sounds weird, but I have to take their word for it. My cell works everywhere except in the car with bluetooth.

If someone has bluetooth problems after a computer update at the dealership, this is the cause of your problem.

WEAK. Did you ask for the service bulliten upgrade? Usually they want me t fork over $$ for that, and steal HP in the process.

What Blitzcat said, that and I'd also get a copy of it. They should have told you what they were doing, why, and what would be effected in the Upgrade!! Make them pay for you New Phone!! I'd be interested to see if any other MINIs are affected by this so-called Upgrade.

This smells way wrong. Bluetooth "frequency change"? Hogwash. I don't doubt that it somehow screwed up your connection, but that explanation is BS.

You have the phone for 2 years. Get a new phone for free from your carrier.

+1

The explanation is total BS there is only one set of Freq's for Bluetooth and ALL devices that use it MUST have the same set. Here is a short explanation of the the specification for freq's that MUST be used by all manufacturers.

Now did the upgrade cause the problem, Most Likely but the explanation why is all wrong.

As for the list of phones that MINI states will work with the car. That list is generated by an outside company that does very little actual testing of phones with cars. they make a lot of money for very little work.

The only real way to know if the phone works is to try it. The best list available is here - http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...fA&hl=en#gid=0

Agree with the "hogwash" explanation

I am not stupid, but had no way to argue with the service manager and the mechanic, and when the service manager tried his new very expensive blackberry, it would not work with my new bluetooth "reset". Makes me think that the new computer "update" screwed up the bluetooth to where it will not work with anything right now.

I had to go out of town .... was on the way out of town when this happend, and am still out of town right now.

Think that I will take my Mini to the dealership, ask for a loaner, and tell them that I will bring the loaner back when they have my bluetooth mode fixed.

I love my car, but with the things that have come out of the dealership and the company's mouths since I have had this car, make me think that they believe that the average buyer must really be naive and stupid.

Geez! Bluetooth is an industry standard that uses defined frequencies. Vendors that advertise "Bluetooth compatibility" ALL use these frequencies. If Mini no longer chooses to use the standard frequencies, they are no longer "Bluetooth compatible". In that case, I would want a full refund of what I paid for a Bluetooth compatible product.

I'm pretty confident they just hosed up the reflash. Make them retry it, or restore the previous flash.

yeah you can get a new phone free, for another 2 year contract commitment (at least with VZW!). I personally would ask the dealer to use one of the phones that they say will work to connect to your MC and see if it ACTUALLY does work or if as others have said, they messed something up in the reprogramming.
