I have a '09 justaclubman with 1300 miles and have noticed that my brakes always grab at the very last moment before coming to a complete stop. Happens at that last foot of travel, at any speed. It's quite irritating as I can never stop smoothly.

This occurs even after the car has warmed up and driven many miles.

Did anyone have this problem and was it fixable?

i have a similar problem. always assumed it was my foot slipping. maybe not?

 

I believe this must be a feature of the BMW brake system design. My brakes behaved this way on both my MINI and BMW's I had in the past. They tend to get less "grabby" as the pads age. On a positive note, they are among the best braking systems from a performance standpoint that I have experienced on factory cars with OEM parts.

I'll hope it becomes less obvious as I put more miles on, but will mention this next time I bring the car in if the grabbing still persists.

 

I always tend to release the brake as i get closer to a stop (I keep good distance and stop early). I usually play a game to try and stop without feeling the car stop, so... I have not noticed them 'grabbing' at the end.

I would guess that with less and less momentum, the brakes would just lock if the wheel spin is slow enough. Just my thought...

 

Like Samysonary, I tend to ease off just before I roll to a stop - that way you don't jerk your passenger's heads either....

 

You all must have talented feet/toes. I've tried easing up on the brake at the last moment, but no matter. It helps but I still get a bit of grab at the very end. It is accompanied by a soft "groan" as the brake engages.

I have the same issue, it started at about 18,000 miles/December. I presumed it was cold weather related as mine disappears after the brakes are used a few times. The grab is so tight it throws my wife forward in her seat several inches. If she wasn't wearing a seat belt, she would hit the dashboard for certain.

 

Having come from a Subaru that has significantly less grabby brakes, my Clubman S took a little while to get used to. I definitely experienced it a lot for the first few months, but a combination of my pads wearing out and my foot getting a feeling for what the brakes would do, I've overcome it.
